Transferring images from Canon EOS400d to Mac Yosemite

Hi all,

New on here and hoping you can help. I have recently purchased a new macbook running Yosemite and now can't upload photos from my Canon EOS 400D onto my system. Has anyone had the same problem and solved it?

Two issues as follows:
1. I need to get EOS Utility onto my macbook but it has no CD drive for me to upload the software

2. Having read up online it seems EOS Utility doesn't work with Yosemite anyway and even if I had the software on my system I would just get an error message anyway.

Feeling very frustrated! Can anyone help? I am plugging my camera straight into my macbook with a USB cable and not using a card reader. I don't know if this makes any difference?

Would be grateful for any help/advice. TIA
 
hi and welcome. go to the canon web site and down load the latest version of the eos utility and dpp ver 3.14.47 is the latest and it should be with the latest eos utility. do not use ver 4 its not compatible with your camera. install it and you should be fine
 
Hi wave01 thanks for your reply. How do I find EOS Utility on the Canon website? And what's DPP? I tried to find EOS utility under some other camera models but it was then asking me for a serial number for that camera model which I don't have

For anyone else reading this - use Image Capture on your macbook. Just tried it and works perfectly. Forget that awful Canon software!
 
Use a memory card reader, The Mac Book should have a SD card reader built in. Then copy paste to the folder you require the photos to be stored. Using additional software merely complicates what is a very simple task.

If you pop onto Canon Europe site, you can download the latest version of Utility - there is also a download for those that don't have the cd (I think you just pop the serial number of your camera in??)

A mate at work was having the same issues with Yosemite, but has now got it sorted with the latest download version and he transfers from his camera direct to his Mac (not via a card reader)

This is what I do I use a card reader for CF cards and just copy and paste the files to where I want
though the Canon software is good for reviewing shots once uploaded but to be honest lightroom is better

Exactly I would want other software running for a basic task that is build in. Generally any card reader will be much quicker as well.
 
The serial no of your camera should be on the base plate. I think canon do this so they can verify the version of EOS utility you need and only allow legitimate users to down load the files.

If you use an inexpensive card reader you can simply copy the files off the card and onto the computer
