Hi I've recently bought a 13 inch macbook pro for editing and storage while away
I'm using LR5 and elements 12 and am really impressed with the mac I'm actually now using it at home instead of my pc a lot of the time
Sometimes tho I want to move a file from the mac to pc
Im using an external drive
formatted to fat format for the mac but the pc won't read the files
At the moment im emailing them across but wondered if there's an easier way

I have tried using wifi on the network but couldn't get that to work

Edit think I will be able to do it by using either dropbox or the knowhow currys online cloud service that I got with the mac

Scrap FAT in my opinion (too many limitations). Format it as NTFS and either do the terminal script for enabling native NTFS write on the mac or purchase a 3rd party app.

That aside can you explain what you mean by the windows box won't open the files? What file types are they? Any errors, or do they appear at all? Step by step what are you doing please.

from what i have read fat32 should be your answer even if it has limitations on file size 4gb i think

Thanks Neil and wave
The drive is a touro external
I formatted to fat
in windows 7
And plugged into the mac
Then copied a folder of jpegs onto it from the mac
When I plug the drive into the pc it doesn't see what's on the drive
Am on nights at the moment but will go through in detail tomorrow what is happening:)
An app sounds a good idea
may redo the format as when i plugged inthe mac for the first time it did something to the drive initailised or ssomething but cant remember excatly

Dropbox/GDrive will do this. So will jacking them in to the same network and sharing a common folder.

Quick and dirty: plug in a card reader with SD/CF card and use that. Or a thumbdrive.

The error I get when I plug in the external drive from the mac into the windows PC is a restoring network connections error
"Network name cannot be found"

Have found a way of doing it tho
I've got a link station NAS drive on my home network and can copy files onto it from the Mac Pro and then copy them from the NAS to my PC
I should have thought of it before but my brain doesn't work too well when I'm on nights!!!
At least I've sorted it:)
Thanks Neil wave and Jonathon:)
