transferming a head between 2 photos

Dont know if anyone can help me on thi but I have 2 photos of teh same person same resolution same focal lenght (taken with tripod)...now I need to cut the head from 1 pic and put it in the other pic and make it as realistic as possible.

So far Im trying to do it with lasso tool or quick wand tool then drag but can come a bit messy

Some one had told me that he uses mask tools for the job but before he could continue he left.

Can anyone tell me how and were this mask tool is and can be used pls?

It could mean a life saver

Select the head you want very roughly, leave plenty room around it, use the lasso or just draw a rectangular marquee and cmd+c to copy it.
Go to the image you want the head on, cmd+v to paste the head in as a new layer, create a layer mask (layer>layer mask or the layer mask icon in the bottom of the layers/channels/paths box, it's the 3rd from the left, rectangle with a circle inside.) and paint black into the layer mask to hide what you don't want of what's around the head. Use a finer brush nearer the head and less hardness to create a more natural appearance.
Working on heads is a pita because of the hair but take your time and you'll get there.

Open both images in photoshop, with the lassoo draw roughly around the doner head and CTRL+C to copy it.close that pic for now now CTRL+V to paste the doner head into the recieving image.
With the move tool drag it roughly into place, now lower the layer opacity untill you can see the background layer, this makes it easier to align the faces (I use the eyes and mouth) if you need to re-size it use transform but hold down shift so it stays the same shape. When you get it in the right place and size hit return to "fix" the transforamation.
Take the layer opacity back to 100% now on the bottom of the layers palette in a layer mask icon (circle in a square) click that and and now using black or white you can paint in (or out) the bits you want or dont want, the beauty of the layer mask is if you make a mistake just swop the colours around and paint over the mistake correcting it.
When you happy flatten the layer (if you want to save as jpeg) if not save as PSD for further editing.
