I'm doing a project for school on tranquility, but i was a bit stuck on ideas for this project.

I would appreciate it if anyone could give me some pointers on ideas that i could try out that are interesting/fun or something that is a bit more creative that the usual landscape scenes.

Thankyou.

Tranquility does usually conjure up scenes of quiet places or unspoilt landscapes - but try and take the angle on what people do to achieve tranquility, rather than thinking of it as a place. Listening to music, reading, sleeping to name a few examples.

I'd be inclined to go even more abstract and think along the lines of colour/shape.

It's a very personal theme but for me tranquility would be represented by blues somehow interacting. Maybe a long exposure with some fluidity to the movement.

I can see two bodies of (different) coloured water coming together 'in-shot' but the long exposure makes it look like a smooth transition.

That's just me

I tend to so a quick google images search if I am stuck for idea - LINKY - gives some good ideas and takes on the theme

Probably a bit of a cliche this but how about a showing the fast pace of the world with one small part of the image suggesting calm - busy street with someone reading a book, that sort of thing

Or something to do with the moon landings - though maybe a bit too obtuse. Don't want you getting detention ;)

i'm a bit confused by what you mean with the moon landing, and getting detention (which won't happen seeing as i'm in sixth form).

I do like some of the ideas that people have come up with. Thanks.

On the theme mentioned by Unclerichy.....someone once posted a great image of a person (posed friend) standing still in a busy high street, and used a long exposure to get the blurr of everyone rushing past. Can't remember who posted, but it was good.

One of the plains on the moon, and the one where the landings took place, is called the Sea of Tranquility. And you can explore it here:

I might across a bit thick here but this moon landing thing has got me completely stumped:thinking: , i still don't understand!:help:

i understand that there was the moon landing in the sea of tranquillity, however what i don't understand is your idea of photographing this and the detention bit!!

If you have only been given the theme "tranquility" to interpret in your own way, you take it to mean the Sea of Tranquility rather than meaning a stress-free state.

Generally in places like schools that kind of lateral thinking is considered as rebelling from what you were supposed to interpret it as, hence the risk of detention.

Though you could legitimately claim the moon is itself a tranquil subject. A shot of a large moon rising over a serene beach scene with a calm sea could show both the Sea of Tranquility and the tranquility of the sea.

Michael.

I was a bit slow, and at my school it seems to be more the case of take the pictures that interest you and then find ways of linking it to your project later on.

My point exactly

That'll teach me to put my thoughts down in a forum late at night...

Shakey, I find tranquility in trees or water or better still, both. I recently got down to Dartmoor and found a fantastic sport near the town of Hexworthy. You'll know the place when you see it. If you have a look on my flickr site, there are a couple of images on there, www.flickr.com/photos/juslaughter.

All the best.
