ouch, nasty one that.

m25 was shut for 6 hours today as a woman was killed in a crash

 How terrible. Fingers crossed there are no fatalities.

yep 1 death and 5 serious injured :(

When you see the pics you realise how well made the carriages seem to be and also how lucky many others were.

Most wounded were taken to Preston hospital last night. The air ambulance has just visited our hospital but this might not be connected.

All minor roads around Grayrigg are closed so its not possible to get close to the scene
but having just seen this pic

- from the BBC site, it looks like it was a bit of a mess

Lots on the news this morning. Train seems to have held together really well.....no crushed carriages, which means fewer casualties. Most injured because of being flung around inside. They seem to have had a lucky escape....apart from the elderly lady who died. Condolences to her family.

 Look at that! You hear train crash, you think mass deaths so given that photo 1 isn't bad, in an odd way.

Sad to think it I know but in a way Pete's right. The driver is one lucky man - let's hope his injuries, and those of others worst affected don't prove too bad. Obviously thoughts also rest with the family of the lady who died.

One wonders whether Virgin will have to withdraw the rest of the pendolino fleet now as clearly the carriages didn't uncouple at all where they should have done. It's incredible that the whole lot came off - just should not be able to happen should it.

Kudos to Branson for cutting short a family holiday and coming back - above and beyond the call of duty IMO.

terrible, saw train crash on the news, they were thinking it may have been something on the line. really hope it wasn't vandals, if it was they need stringing up.
