Traffic light beater .......... wtf ?

I read an article in the paper on Sunday about a new system which tells the driver of a car weather the lights they're approaching are about to change to green or not, and if not, exactly how long they will have to wait at them whilst on red.

I mean for ffs !!

Whilst I dont own a sat nav and have no inclination to buy one, I can see how they may be usefull to some people,

but this .................

It gets better, if the lights ahead are on red, the system will tell you an approriate speed to go so that by the time you reach them, they will have changed to green.

The system was fitted in an Audi, I cant remember weather it was designed by them or just fitted in one of their cars, but whoever designed it, WELL ****ING DONE !!

Now we'll not only have numb nuts staring at sat nav screens and changing lanes last minute, they will also be speeding up and slowing down for absolutely no apparant reason. Assuming of course they havn't crashed from staring at 2 computer screens whilst driving !!!!

but if everyone had it then surely the traffic jams would be reduced?
Most jams are caused/increased by the stop start nature of the traffic.
although like you say it wouldnt be a good thing if they start accelerating at traffic lights.

quite a lot of lights in towns are designed so that if you hit one on green and drive the speed limit you hit the next one on green too (riding the green wave)
