...put your Xmas tree up?

When is it? Am I right in thinking the traditional time of year to put it up is the first weekend of advent? Or have I heard wrong?

According to some round our way, it appears to be the first week in October!

I think most tend to put them up the first weekend in December, yes.

Yep, first weekend in December the missus disappears into the back of the garage and appears an hour later brandishing the tree and decorations, at which point I..........................:exit:

No freakin way! I dug our stuff out today to see if there's anything we need (seeing as all our locals shops have their Christmas gear out), checked all the lights then reutrned it all to the shed with a list of a few bits we need to get.

This'll be my 3rd Xmas since I got married and got our own place, but the first Xmas we've actually been at home...I just wanna do things right :D

2nd Saturday of December for me, I realised it was getting too early when I used to do it on the 1st Saturday of December, until one year it landed on the 1st :D

Christmas eve.

I'm sad to report that I've seen a few houses with trees lit up already and even a garden full of Santa, reindeer and snowmen.

my mum always went on about how we should go to the forrestry commision site on christmas eve and get the tree, until one of her friends did just that and the place was closed!

we have a fake tree at our house so it will live in the attic until suzie decides its time to crack it out.

some of the houses on the estate down from mine still ahve the decorations on the walls all year round, too lazy to get a job, too lazy to take the decorations down....!:cuckoo:

End of the day, you need to do it when the wife tells you..... I mean put it up when you think it's right. It's your house and you can do what you like (although, stick it up now and we will all call you sad!) :D

We've moved this year to a lovely victorian cottage, so we're going old school with our decorations and having authentic Victorian style decs. It's the first time in a looooong time I've looked forward to Christmas.

For some reason it sticks in my mind 12 days before until 12 days after.

I hate,loathe and detest Christmas........

:)

Wife , sons call me Scrooge , absolutley no interest in xmas , trees or decorations ( well apart fron Zulu ) , even worse its the one day when the MIL comes bah

Christmas eve.
Yep. Tree should go up for the 12 days 24th dec ->4th Jan

//shudder

No danger of that, I was ranting only this morning about Disney deciding they have the rght to say Christmas is now in November just so they can make a few (billion) quid extra :bat:

My Mum puts hers up Christmas Eve and we do too (ish unless I get impatient and want to put it up earlier - think we did last year:lol: ). We also have moveable wise men and they start their journey in one corner of the room and by 6th January they are at the Manger. As my Mum is French, we also celebrate the Epiphany and have a big meal and used to have smallish pressies again.

We always used to put our tree and decs up the night we broke up from school for Christmas. Providing that was that when my big brother and I finished school we cleaned the house top to bottom and made tea. It was always pizza, chips and beans for dinner that night. We used to finish about 11pm. A real grown up late night for me then.

Even today, I put up decs and tree around the 19th/20th. Usually the weekend before Christmas. I love it, but hate all the carpy commercialism that goes along with the festive period these days.

My brother puts his up on the 1st December!

As a side thought, I wonder if as many people will be going overboard with outdoors Christmas lighting on houses this year what with electricity costs as it is. In the past, I've seen many dark evenings being brightened up by the plethora of exterior lighting, it is that I do like about Christmas. When it's done tastefully it does look good. Just normal colour/mono light bulbs arrangements will do but cannot abide fibreglass santa and reindeer figures.
But on the whole, the whole commercialism thing depresses me, and being made to feel that what little cash I do have on me I have to buy presents for other people "just because it's Christmas", thus putting extra strain on my already weakened budget (I'm only a tomato picker). I tell other people and my family not to worry about getting me anything but they still do it. It's a bit like me giving that person a tenner then he/she gives it straight back to me.
And finally, the amount of extra rubbish that will be put out for the refuse/recycle collecion due to the excessive amount of packaging on toys and foodstuff. Not exactly conductive to the enviroment cause, isn't it?
Sorry about this mini-rant, that's just me being grouchy in the mornings. :shake: :D :help:

Well ive been informed by daughter crimbo in my house this year.So i will let her get on with organising it :).
And i get first dibs on grandkids toys :)

Weekend before Christmas, then 12 days after to take it down again.

I love our current house as we get 2 trees - one for the lounge and one for the playroom :D

Artificial one goes up in the lounge beginning dec and my children decorate it with their gaudy decs (well more like chucked on) and the real one goes up on the hall one week before more tastefully decorated by my goodself :)

I take mine down new years day too.....fed up of em by then. Anyway Matty...I work 24/7 so you get more holiday then me :D

I try and do as little work as possible, it's in my genes, passed down by my dad :D

I've usually got the arse with xmas dec's by about the 2nd hour after putting them up, usually because our idiot cat thinks it's a new play toy and climbs the tree :bat:

It's October FFS! Let's at least get the annoyance of Halloween over with first!

Wish I'd never asked now :D
