Yes
Hi All
Just been looking to get some new kit for christmas and googled the particular item and a company called Trade cameras ltd, unit 72, Carriocca Business Pk, 2 Sawley road, Manchester M40 8BB, were selling it £50 cheaper than anywhere else, on viewing their website I can't for love nor money find a telephone number. I have emailed them requesting their telephone number but something doesn't smell quite right. Although I am not insinuating any dodginess in any way, but has anybody had any dealings with or know anything about them?

Cheers Paul :thumbs::thumbs:

Well, that is in one of the dodgiest parts of Manchester for a start.... :p

If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is

I just googled Trade Cameras and got nothing, zip, centre of a polo, butkis.

That must tell you something.

The vat number the list comes up as being genuine as does the company number however the address is given as suite 72, not unit, suggesting it may just be a mail drop, hence no phone number...

Correct me if I'm wrong but 0121 is a Birmingham, not a Manchester area code, isn't it?

Yes,0121 is Birmingham.

yep

Manchester is 0161.

Sounds somewhat dodgy. It looks like one of these industrial buildings where lots of small businesses have a small room each. Certainly not big enough for a lot of stock - so they possibly drop ship.

And that phone number resolves to:

Medtech

Birmingham,

About Medtech

Must take them a wee while to answer the phone then

Of course it could be a Skype number, you can have a landline number anywhere in the world with that...

I had a look at that site as well but thought for the extra £50 saved is it really worth buying from an unknown company. I would rather spend the bit extra and get it from a well known retailer.

Just a warning to you all (I'm not to clear on libel laws) but as I see it stay well clear and have a good Christmas.

PS I'm going Manchester over Christmas and if I get chance to check it out and find anything untoward I'll let you know.

Cheers Paul

Not sure how to put this but.... I have spoken to these guys on the 'phone (who are quite pleasent people, as individuals, in fact) and have chosen not to deal with them!
I'm confident they are not doggy in the criminal sense I just prefer to shop elswhere.

On a more positive note if you let us know what you are looking for we could offer you some personal recomendations whee you would get good service (remember value for money is not just about price).

no i am in the process of a order and refund

obviously, but no legitimate business would put false details, would they?

Unless they're called Filter Fantastic :suspect:

but your investigating the business to see if it is legit.. so ....

also seen it many times on TP..people quoting the data held on whois... :)

I must be missing your point here. The first set of whois data ties up with the site name and address of Trade Cameras, however the phone number given on the whois pertains to a private address in a different city.

Either a) it's the owner's home address/number

or b) it's a snide phone number.

either way Trade Cameras don't list a contact phone number on their website and, from what the op says, they aren't keen on giving it out to customers either.

Obviously I don't know how you view this, but to me any company that either refuses to give out a phone number and/or lists a fake one is one to be treated with suspicion.....

Obviously I don't know how you view this,

I dont have any views on it at all...

Just made the point that you cant always trust the data in the whois... it isn't checked and anyone can put anything in... Its a valid point and I think worth mentioning..

No mountains here.. Just mole hills :)

I wouldn't really go too much on the whois as it could be the website designer or domain company registering for them and putting incorrect or a mixture of details in. Companies House shows they are a new company, less than a year and although that doesn't mean they are dodgy it would simply be common sense to be cautious. Use a CC to be safe me reckons :)

A quick search, another forum and same subject was posted on 27th Nov...

ello.

I've just bought a EOS5 with.

http://www.tradecamerasonline.com/

I ordered it last week, and they've not really been very forthcoming with information about a delivery date. To be fair, they did say up to 10 working days for delivery but as the days grind by I cant help but think have I made a big mistake. Something about them just dosent seem right.

So I'm hoping somebody on here can put me out of my misery who has had dealings with them....

EEEEK!!!!

Some posts later similar to the above......

To Woody and Harry,

Well both, the Camera arrived!!!!

To be honest I've been ******** my pants over this(never order anything online after going to the pub!) and yes stupidly i used a debit card, never again..... I now own a credit card because of this and have even started smoking again!

It was a learning curve, but luckily for me I didn't get burnt.

So trade Cameras are ok, but they are also VERY VERY slow at delivery and are really crap at customer communication.

The obvious answer is that they are sourcing kit from overseas or even Kerso lol, then selling on at a smaller profit. (maybe?)

I came across this address and number in the searches I did on trade cameras ltd but although both are supposed to be on Cariocca Business Park, the post codes are nowhere like the same (will google earth them in a minute) The Item I was after is a Sigma EM 140 DG Macro Ring Flash, I'd got a price from Jessops that was as good as any but just put it in google shopping before ordering which is where I came across Trade Cameras. I emailed them last night asking them to email their telephone number to me but up to now no reply.

Just checked the 2 postcodes on google earth and they are a good 2.5 km apart. All I' saying is if you are running an A1 business why would you have all these anomilies when or if somebody were to check up on you?

Lol the Avforum thread is from me :D I later on emailed them asking could i pay and collect it as im in Greater Manchester area yet they didnt want me too :suspect: hence the paying more bit to buy a D90 from Jessops as i knew id get it there.

They may be legit.... but a company thats new and doesnt seem to want you too pick up items from them with a phone number with wrong area code hmm i'll leave people to there own thoughts :)
