Traction engine

Sorry but don't like the tilted horizen, wide-angle distortion, low angle, leaning back distortion, distracting back ground clutter or the HDR like effect.
Apart from that, GOOD CATCH! :)
I was driving one the other weekend and should have been again last weekend but the fusible decided to weep and needed replacing. And people wonder why we refer to them in the feminin!

Got to agree with Stumpy, its could be a good image if you had shot from a bit higher, or used a shift lens to get away from the leaning back look.

Nothing wrong with ultra wide distortion, but you need to use it to your advantage, in this case you were just shooting for the wrong vantage point. A few steps right would have been enough.

Traction engines aren't the ideal subjects for UWAs unless you're using the exaggerated perspectives they give for effect (IMO.) As Mr Jones says, a few steps to the right would get it looming out of the background while your straight from the side view just looks distorted.

I always find it hard to shoot traction engines. Steam rallies are always too cluttered to get unhindered shots.

I think Traction Engines offer a good opportunity for UWA.
The method I use is to wander round a full 360deg and look for minimum clutter.
Then go in REALLY close and select a low viewpoint.
Close in, low viewpoint is different.
Upright, 50mm can just be bland.
