TPF Slimathon

I usually avoid threads like this as I am somewhat of a heavyweight...

but.. I need some motivation from somewhere to do something about my health so I may just join in with you guys.

My starting weight is likely to be higher than most of yours (if not all) at approx 280lbs (it's been a while since i weighed myself) and the docs tell me that I should be around 168-182 lbs for my height however I think I would end up like a male version of twiggy if I went that low because I am naturally heavily built - so I am aiming at 196lb as my ultimate target weight.

So.. I have 6 stone to lose

I drink so rarely that you could almost call me tea-total so I have no problems there. I don't smoke either so my only bad habits are food and lack of excercise/laziness... oh and a tendency to drink a lot of fizzy drinks - some days between 2 and 4 litres per day.

This last week I have tried to drink only water (and still drink upwards of 2 litres per day) and I have tried to avoid snacks so it's a start - but that's it.

I have lost 44lbs once before with weight watchers so I know I can lose weight, what I lack is will power... and the staying power to keep up with it once I have lost the weight.

Anyway, I don't know what the point of my rambling was except to say that I will be watching this thread more closely from now on

Excellent start Braeden!

Can I suggest that you get on those scales to give you a true starting point. You'll never know if its is working until you have that accurate start weight.

What plans have you for exercise? I hate that word 'exercise' it has so many negative feelings for many people, how about 'What plans do you have for getting sweaty?!' :D

I take it you have a 9-5 job? How far do you live from work?

Do we have any kind of group plan in place with this, or are we all following our own individual thing?
I used to walk 6 miles a day on average, dance the weekend away in clubs and play Badminton every couple of days... that was just a couple of years ago but, now I get out of puff strolling to the local shop ..so I dont .:nono:
If Im honest my only work-out now is gardening.
I really need to find some motivation . Being let loose around my local shopping centre with someone elses plastic would probably do it but, lets face it, thats so not going to happen!
So guys, how are you motivating yourselves to exercise, sorry... 'getting sweaty' ...especially in this heat?

Well I cycle to work every day, 5 miles each way and lots of hills. My motivation is that it's too expensive to drive these days :(

Saying that, when I drove the other day I felt like I was cheating and got grumpy because I couldn't wizz past the traffic queues so I guess I'm enjoying it.

It takes me about 20 minutes each way and I feel a lot fitter than when I started.

If you dont fancy Tug of war, some of you could probably join me on the Rugby pitch. Evan Ghandi, theres a position for everyone.

I'm 6'6" and around 18 stone (252 Lb), currently in pre-season training :( and waiting for the season to start so, I can shed the beer belly I've developed.

I'm pretty skint at the minute so I'm trying to get my money's worth out of my cut price gym membership at Cannons :) It's airconditioned so it's ok, and I want to be in good shape for my hols in September.
Cycling to work isn't an option for me.

Too much bobbin's to carry for the mid-wiffery?

Oh, wait, you're a between jobs slacker aren't you! :D

 I start my next job on the 31st! But yes, too much equipment to carry around, and I wouldn't fancy the idea of cycling the 15 miles to work at the funny times I have to be there.

I've just had the living room & landing ceilings re-plastered so have the whole lot to re-decorate. Should burn off a few calories in this weather :p

Glo.....i'll let you loose with 1 of my credit cards if you do your working out in my garden

it's not a very big card though.....50p limit

ive got no cash, so im not eating the crud i normally do, so the weights thinking about tumbling off.

What say we all post our weight sunday or monday, then follow it up every 7 days?

ok I'm in
I'll post on sunday after my morning shower :)

Another hidden weight contestant here, but to say I'm big as you can see from my pic, I'm 6 ft 4 and normal household scales wont give my weight. :(

But I will go into town to a machine and get weighed and follow along quietly.

When I stopped being a pro hockey player I was laid up for 6 months of not walking - (broke my ankle in 6 places) and the weight just piled up and the muscle died away. But want to loose some now.

I think I need to drink loads more (esp water) - I can go all day on 1 bottle of water, and a cup of tea.

Got a step board 2nd hand - just dont know how to use it - anyone know of any sites with some ideas for using it

has anyone reported any weight loss yet?

my exercise routine is going well, although i havent partaken in any pointy dancing as of yet!

Have you got any weight to lose?!?! Your pic in the avatar doesn't look like you need to mate. Or are you doing a getting fit one?

well i got weighed this morning and i have lost 4lb, just for not eating any crap, will do some exercise as well when the heat has gone.
YIPPEEE:thumbs:

Just been to see my mom & she has scales ... no she's not a blooming fish before the jokes start!
I weighed myself for the first time in about a year and Im a stone heavier.
Im now 9 stone 9 which is shocking for me (she says as she munches on a Viscount mint biscuit).
I might be making light of it but Im not happy.
Think more exercise is in order as I cant find the motivation to drop the sweet stuff just yet.

Congrats Boon ... if you have any willpower stories to share, now is the time!

your heavier but making light of it.........wimmin confuse me :D

 Well done Boon - that's great!
I'll weigh myself in the morning for the Sunday weight in (and you also weigh less in the mornings ;) )

Ok, as it's official TPF weigh in day today, I jumped on the scales this morning and Ive lost 4lbs too :D I'm well pleased. See, I can be good when I try ;)

just been to the gym, 81kgs......no real change this week, but to be fair I've not even bothered to change my eating habits :D

well today (lunchtime) I weighed in at 86 so I've gone up slightly but I've been off the gym this week heat rash on my neck and shoulders makes sweating a painfull experience :( On the up side I hope to have some nice pics of ferraris from today just as soon as I find the USB cable for my camera to look at them.

I'm going to join in with you guys.

In the past 7 years since I started work I have put on 3 stone. :'(

It is mostly noticeable on my stomach...it is now terrible and this morning my husband tried to shock me into addressing the situation by saying how awful it looks!

I must stop biscuits and sweets. (a bit hard when I have to buy them and have them in the cupboard for the rest of the family....my boys are like beanpoles!)

At my age I am having permanent hot flushes and I cant contemplate excercise....but I will try to cut out the sweet things along with a gentle dog-walk in the evenings and see if it makes a start.

I couldnt see any point in trying....nothing on the horizon to make me want to bother....but now all you great bunch on here are trying too, I will give it a go and try to do it along with you. Thanks.

Janice, well if you're doing it, then I will too. I have gotten to the point with my weight loss now, that it's almost "Pfft I dont care", but I know thats an excuse for me having no enthusiasm, because I really DO want to lose it.

So with that in mind, we'll egg each other on so to speak (only not with eggs, because there's up to 10 grams of fat in an egg :D)

I'll go weigh myself now, which I've been putting off.

Now I've got my holiday out of the way I gonna join in too, just jumped on the scales   15.8 st, oops! Right, off to the gym see you in a bit.

When I lived at home with my parents I was 13.5 st, when I moved in with the wife, it started going down hill. Been living with the wife for 7 years now, its all her fault!! Mind you when I was at mums she used to do a massive sunday dinner type thing every night??? I must just be eating more crap nowdays?

So who's in then? I make it:

Boon
Marcel
Janice
MiniMeeze

Now that's a very short list BUT I've not included anyone that's not explicitly said that they want to publicly join in. I know that this is a very personal thing and don't want to pressure anyone into joining so, add your name to the list if you want to!

:)
PS. I'm very happy to be the spirit of 'Mr. Motivator' by giving lots of encouragement although I refuse to wear any silly lycra! :D

Ok, I weighed myself this morning and it seems i'm already lighter than I expected to be (even my mother asked me yesterday if I had lost weight) since my last weigh in was almost a stone heavier than I am now.

273.5lb (19st 7.5lbs or 124.3 kilos) is my starting weight for this slimathon.

I don't have a time limit as such, but my target weight is 196lbs (89 kilos) so I have a mammoth task ahead.

I can't afford to join a gym yet, but when the house has sold and we have got somewhere else to live then I will do so.

As for my plan, well I lost 44lbs on a weight watchers diet some time ago so until the house sells I will mainly be watching what I eat, as well as walking to places I would normally drive to (within reason) and generally trying not to be such a couch potato. Hopefully this will improve my photography as well since I will be taking more walks
