We had an awesome day today in Liverpool. Marcel, Jimmy_Lemon, David J Colbran (hopefully soon to join) and I went to Shoot Liverpool. We got given 7 items to find and shoot, and 3 open concepts all relating to "Water." No computers were allowed so that meant we had to shoot JPG and thanks to the 30D's picture styles we were able to get some nice black and whites and some nice colour shots. We had to think outside the box and get shots 100% perfect as we knew we couldn't rely on Photoshop to save us. We had 5 hours to get the 10 shots and just managed the last at about 4:59. Hopefully we'll add the shots tomorrow as Jimmy has the card. After over 2 and a half hours waiting we got the results. There was a best photo per theme and 3 extra categories. We saw a slideshow of all the entries and some were pretty darn good. The end result was we won in one category and came 2nd in the best photo category, which was excellent. The photos were very much a team effort. We all chipped in and the end results were a product of group input.

So we won one, came 2nd for the best photo which features Marcel in a fountain (you heard me :D) and we'll have our photo(s) displayed in the Open Eye Gallery in Liverpool for 3 days. All in all a fantastic day out.

Woooo!!!! :woot:
Congrats guys!

Sounds like you had a load of fun doing this.
Look forward to seeing the pics ... especially Marcel walking on water! ;)

Hehe :D He wasn't so much walking on water as walking through a fountain of water :D Good sport and the image proved a near winner.

Indeed it was fun! just very tired now :( Was going to post the pics, but they dont make much sense without the clues we were following (they dont make a hell of a lot of sense with the clues either). So Pete is gonna post them with the clues when he gets his ass out of bed in the morning :p

Sounds like you all had a riot! would have loved to watched your efforts.
Congrats on a successful day

Well done you lot.

And Marcel's had his bath for the year

Sounds like great fun, I too can't wait so Pete get your tucas out of bed!

Well done  . Sounds like you all had a blast. Looking forward to seeing the pictures :)

Sounds like a really good day out!

Well done representing the TP crew :D

looking forward to seeing the shots.

Indeed it was a fantastic day out. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

It was certainly fresh, having to think outside the box to take funny quirky and visually appealing shots of certain items/features, while providing an answer to a clue, AND having to get it right first time in JPEG, in-camera.

I must say thanks to Mr Lemon for his bag of filters, which helped on the day too :D And thanks to Pete for his 10-22 and the use of his camera :D
And thanks to the fountains for soaking me ****-wet through :D I did dry out in the end though, and it was worth it, especially to get 2nd place in the overall best photo category.
Oh, and Dave for anchoring himself :D (And getting a bit anchored later on, on the free beer :D).

Well worth the tenner entry fee, and a smashin day out, a great laugh :D

Sounds like an excellent day - well done Team TP!

Our team name for the day was "The A-Team". I did mean to go dressed in combats....but due to my age, forgot :embarrassed:

Can't wait to see pix of Liverpool that haven't been HDR'd.

Come on slackers, get the images up......it's nearly the top of the day!!!!

well done chaps, you done good!

The first 6 clues were fixed clues. They were places and objects we had to find and incorporate into our shots in some fashion.

ferry.jpg

"The subject of this song may get your heart racing if this land's the place you love." So we went with a ferry cross the Mersey. We got there as it was coming back so we didn't really have time to think and I shot a bunch of photos. This one seemed to capture it best.

docks.jpg

"Built of iron, bricks and stone, for today this dock, we call it home." - Albert Dock, the location of the Tate gallery where Shoot Liverpool was to start. Love Jimmy's filter there.

wtf.jpg

"Maybe this replica can shed some light on the surrounding water." - This was a real git of a clue. You see there's two replicas of objects that project light onto the water at Albert Dock. One is a sort of lighthouse from a ship and the other is what we shot. The other one is a replica of Tatlin's Tower that lights up at night. I thought it was this one but it was the red lighthouse. Over thinking there. The real problem was that this thing looks rubbish unless its night time. So we figured it looks rubbish, be honest ;)

anchor.jpg

"Anchor yourselves at this anagram - U MUST AIM URE MIME." - This was the Merseyside Maritime Museum. For this shot we thought of buying some handcuffs, sold out, and chaining ourselves to the anchor. One team, oddly, had climbing gear on them and did just that. So someone came up with the idea of being crushed by the anchor. David got stuck in and this was our winning shot for this category. It was tricky waiting for everyone to move out the shot because all the kids wanted to play too.

waterbank-street.jpg

"The street with two names - the original reminds us of richer things, the other like our theme, so-named to lead you to the river bank." - This was "Water Street." Originally named "Bonk Street" and later Bank Street. We came up with the highly original idea of attaching money to the sign to imply Bank Street, just as everyone else did.

monkey5.jpg

"Fancy a bit of drama at the docks? Make like a pirate but don't fall in the water." - At Albert Dock there is a theatre company called 'Walk the Plank'. Marcel had brought monkey and we made him an iPatch. We did try and source a knife to make him walk the plank but it was transparent.

The following four images were "Open Clues" so we could do whatever.

Scouse-Water.jpg

"What is scouse for WATER?" - Scouse for water is "Council Pop." We knew this because the MCC Apple store let us use their computers and someone didn't delete the history. However, we thought we'd be clever, just like everyone else, and go for the locally brewed beer called Cains. This was our final shot of the day so it was a bit rushed.

yellowsub.jpg

"Yellow Submarine" - David found a tiny yellow submarine in one of the stores. We had planned to go to the fountain by the Walker Art Gallery but it was an extra 5/10 minute walk that we couldn't afford. So we whacked it into the fountain at Williamson Square and got a quick shot. 70mm was close enough to get a bit wet, but not as wet as Marcel did.

holywater.jpg

"Holy Water" - This church was right by Water Street so it was on our route. We had a few different ideas but when we got there we found one group already doing our shot so we took a walk and found this statue outside the church. Again, just like everyone else did, haha.

bodshower.jpg

"Water water everywhere but not a drop to drink. Is this the future?" - The 2nd best photo of the day according to the judges. A photo that capture what the day was about. Water, having fun, getting stuck in, taking great photos. Marcel got soooo wet for this. The force of the water landing on the brolly made the brolly essentially useless, but it looked great.

So no RAW, no Photoshop, 10 great shots we were all happy with. I just wanna thank the other guys in the team for a top day out.

Excellent photos guys. I did Shoot London last weekend which was excellent fun but hard work!

Hopefully I'll be able to pop into the OpenEye and see the photos properly.

Many congratulations men,. A damn fine effort. Imaginative, well taken and presentented photographs. All the better for no PS in mho. Impressive and fun.

Thanks chaps. I dont think there was one photo where one of us didnt get any chance of inputting. They really were a great team effort.

At one point we panicked because we thought we'd spent way too long planning the shots between us, and we were running out of time...lol

I think we should organise something like this, it was brilliant fun.

I thought this idea from I first hearded it was great, It looks like you had a great day. I would love to do something along these lines.

I think the anchor shot would be my favourite :P

Looks like a fantastic day, and some great shots too! Well done guys

good stuff guys :)
