I've just had a text telling me that TP member ButtonMoon is currently on TV on Fern Britton's show on Channel 4. I'm at work at the moment so I can't put the TV on but I'll be home in an hour so I'll watch it on 4+1.

Anyone who know Tracey tune in now!!!

Anyway the cake was absolutely brilliant :thumbs:

Its not on 4OD yet but http://www.channel4.com/programmes/fern and it is series 1 episode 4.

Ive been thinking about putting my prices up anyway (way before the tv thing) as my business advisor said im working for pence an hour!! Dont worry all those who have already ordered cakes and paid deposit....price will stay the same LOL xx

That cake is stunning, you have real talent and deserve success, people will pay for talent like yours so get those prices up
 
Thanks very much Darren....lots of people have told me to charge more and even go 'exclusive' but im not in an area where people would pay for that! LOL It would be fantastic to actually earn money by doing something i like! xxx
 
I thought my wife made good cakes, but they aren't as good as yours!

Do you have a website to put photos/contact details on? You might not be in the location, but people will travel or pay extra for delivery if it's what they want.

Good. I was going to offer to do a website for you (free of charge). It would only have been fairly basic though as I'm not a professional.

People will pay, and they will travel to see you.

For what it's worth my uncle started selling his own cakes 25 years ago and within 5 years sold the business for 'quite a lot' to a very well known company. He then started up again and did the same thing! :lol:

I can't say who he is, or the reason why I can't say. Nothing illegal, just not something for a public forum. ;)

Take the jump, but I don't see it as much of a risk. I assume you work at the moment, and this would be an extra income. When the balance shifts, quit your job and sell cakes full time.

I could give you names of buyers for various retailers, but they would have retired by now. :lol: However, if when you are set up (website running and ready to take the jump) feel free to PM me and I will speak to the family that are still in touch with that side of the business.

My wife tried selling Avon for a while, but got put off by very rude people when she delivered the booklets. She also ended up spending more money on the products than she was selling! :lol:

My wife also runs another business that is within the wedding market. If you want her to link to your website (if you are going to target brides) then let me know.
 
thanks Steve! Yeah theres 2 more bakers on next, week, and then the week after that 2 more. Then its the final on the 21st of April.
Trouble is weve been given the choice of either making the SAME cake but modifying it...OR making a complete new design, but i just dont have the time to make a new design and with the figures already made i could use those again saving me lots of work. But if the other two finalists make cakes in a different design im going to come across as lazy LOL
Im not expecting to win the final...lots of great cake makers out there :) x
 
ha ha ive been there and done that! you have to go out in the rain and snow and go back to peoples houses COUNTLESS times because they never pay on time LOL...she did right in not carrying on! LOL i only do it because i help my mum do it aswell lol

She does handmade invitations and all other stationery for weddings. She also does favour boxes etc.

Her work is very good, but she doesn't believe in herself that much. She doesn't charge as much as she could.
 
lmao...sounds just like me :) work for nothing because its something you enjoy, but worries people arent going to like your work!!

Im getting married next year..but already bought some stuff to make my own invites or else i could have thrown some work her way!! xx

paa....not a clue LOL, it took me weeks to make those models....i havent even tallied a total up, it would be guaranteed still hundreds cheaper than a shop though LOL
 
lmao..o yes the whole thing only took me half an hour! LOL
it was unfinished and i was flapping around like a chicken behind that flag throwing stuff at it ha ha
