Tp - link av200 powerline adapter

I brought a pair of these plug and play adaptors today.

As soon as I plugged it in the main computer went from having speeds of 10-15mbps to 1mbps (this is the computer which is plugged into the router)

Any ideas?

The router is a d-link dsl-2680. The new plugs are tp - link Tl-pa251kit.

I have one plugged in downstairs in a wall socket and wired to router and one upstairs plugged into the main socket which is run to computer number 2.

Computer 1 which is plugged into the router gets between 10&15mbps

Computer 2 gets less then a meg.

Wireless network on my phone gets about 5mbps when in the same room as computer 2.

When I first plugged them in it seemed to kill the speed to computer 1 but it's seems to be back to normal, just can't achieve a decent speed on computer 2.

Crap house wiring probably, have you got them on extensions or plugged into the wall socket directly?

Direct into a socket.

I could try different sockets but I would have to run a longer cable which kind of defects the object and I might as well just go wireless.

When I load up the software it only shows one plug thought it would show both of them

Do a speedtest.net on both of the PCs & compare the results, they should be pretty close in value, if not there is a problem (router, mains cable, network cable or homeplug)

With my TP TL-PA201 kit I get over 35Mbps in the shed at the bottom of my garden (60Mbps Virgin)

my suspicion is that the two sockets arent on the same circuit - powerline type adapters always work best on one circuit.

you could try a wifi booster upstairs (at the extent of decent wifi) instead , although tbh if you want the best speeds you are pretty much always going to have to run a cable

My kit is on separate rings AND the shed is on a spur 30 metres down the garden on its own RCCB

fair enough - but maybe if you were on the same circuit you'd get 60mbps. I'm not saying it won't perform accross rings, but it definitely performs better on the same ring, so if the OP is experiencing poor performance thats one possibile reason why

Also i assume your shed spur is quite new - performance of these is often worse on old cabling
