I keep hitting refresh and it's going up all the time! but only 64 of them are members, that's a hell of a lot of guests :shrug:
 
its search bots, we are being crawled by google and yahoo, we always are, but now they are really going to town. Our already very high google results will get higher now. Just think, some people pay for a program to change urls to make it more friendly to spiders, we have achieved high google ranking and search results and have loads of crawling spiders just by setting it all correctly, saved a fortune!
 
There cant be 450bots? surely? that would kill plenty of sites!

I wonder if you can 'trust' these stats, I'm involved in a small photo-forum, with around 500 members, we had our 'record' last night with 'most users online 362'

Considering we generally have 20-30 members on-line, a 10 fold increase is not realistic.

I'm not knocking Talk photography at all, it's a grand site, I just think sometimes you need to take these stats with a pinch of salt ?

As mentioned above (by matty), most of the online people are guests, and most of those are search-bots
 
Oh aye we're fully aware theyre bots, and which search engines theyre coming from. Nice to see the top search engines are coming back to us to have a good nosey round.
 
even more now, Les they are bots, the bots feed on content, we have lots of content, and everyday the list of content gets sent to the search engines, they send in the spiders to check it all out. you can pay top dollar to get that sort of thing, or you can do it the way we have, and build up to it nice and steady. you can see for yourself how many users and bots online, weve got it set so it can be seen
