sorry guys...

but it will happen ...I hope!!!

TP is a trademark, and I shouldn't just be using it as I please...
@RaglanSurf has all in hand !!!

just to be the devil on the shoulder, whats the point of it? We can post pics in here and in the film pics forum, do we need a third place?

I must admit, that's kind of what I don't understand really... I only use flickr for hosting / serving up photo's (and then, only the ones I don't mind someone stealing) - but frankly, if I want feedback on my images (when I actually get around to actually taking some of course), I come here and post them up for critique.

For Clarity, Nick approached me via PM on this subject, and to be honest, as it's to do with using the TP name (and the implications thereof) it's something that I needed to pass on to "the management" - one of the Admins is now in the PM conversation, and hopefully we will be able to get a ruling - but I'd really like to get an idea of WHY this would be a good idea, and WHY taking photo-sharing and critique away from here to someone elses site is a good way of improving Talk Photography's community. I'd also like to know what, if anything you feel is lacking HERE so maybe we can look towards improving things...

Frankly, I don't like the idea of splitting the community - who'd get custody of Roberts for one thing....

It arose the other night at the f&c beer meet in London and it seemed like a good idea at the time. For me it's just another outlet for us to share our photos, there's nothing wrong with the 'show us your film shots thread' or the 'photos from film' section but for me since I use flickr as storage facility and as a place to display my photo's sometimes it's easier just to add photos to selective groups that I think are relevant. It also makes sense to be able to comment on individual photo's without filling up a busy thread using 'quote' thing to identify the photo you're praising or slagging off as is the usual case with @Asha's shots.

Really folks, it's not a big deal. I'm happy that there is enough interest in f&c to create the group and for those that don't see the point then you can just ignore it and carry on as you always have, it's not compulsory. It's not going to reduce my interaction with f&c and the rest of the forum, I'm not a great one for critiquing other folks shots, I have enough trouble critiquing my own work and clicking 'like' on others so it's not taking anything away from TP, it's just another outlet.

A quick search on flickr shows a couple of other groups under the Talk Photography 'banner' (TP - the flickr group, one for a 52 project and one for street photography) and I don't think they've moved contributions from here to there, though I sit ready to be corrected on that.

I'm another who only really uses flickr for hosting, sharing (when people aren't on here) and a limited form of cloud storage. On one hand, I'm also struggling to see why there's a need for an external group when we can share and communicate here and there are plenty of dedicated film groups on flickr already. On the other hand, I can see the value of having a group that images can be posted to as an album or set, which reduces the spam factor of posting them on here and can widen both the distribution and the potential for TP recruitment through cross-group postings.

Presumably it would be a closed group to prevent people joining and either spamming members or attempting to sell kit outside of TP forums and rules?

There are plenty of reasons why Flickr is a better photo gallery than TP (image size, photo layout, tags, EXIF) and plenty of reasons why TP is a better discussion forum than Flickr (community, threads).

Given that many of us are already uploading to Flickr anyway, it would be nice if we had a way of seeing all of those film photos on Flickr. If TP are (rightly) worried about fragmenting the community by creating a photo pool, then maybe a standard tag we can apply to our film images to denote them as TP F&C would enable us to see those photos without creating a Real TP/Continuity TP situation?;)

I don't think there is any danger of fragmentation whatsoever. I would still post the pictures in here, same as I do now.

As Keith says, this is a discussion forum and flickr isn't.

The advantage of a flickr group is the ability to see a lot of our film pictures all in one place.

It will be done tonight, once I've finished doing my accounts :bang:

I'm 'watching' this thread with interest!

I like the idea, I think it'll provide an easier link to see people's other film photos, instead of just the couple they choose to post up here. Looking forward to it :)

It's very slow and cumbersome to look for images that have previously been posted in the Show us your film shots thread. I can't even quickly or easily look up the photos I've posted myself in the thread without resorting to google.

At least within Flickr, it's much easier to simply browse photos or look for particular images.

.

I only just found out that images we "upload" to a thread don't appear in the "images" section of our profile.

I also think its a good idea. As has been mentioned, it gives the opportunity to see more shots in one place as opposed to searching through individual threads etc.

Oh, the "Show Us" thread is a great big lumbering dinosaur of a thing, I must admit. Frankly, when we finally (after ages lobbying for it) got a Photos from Film Section in the Crit's I hoped that the thread would sort of subside, and that the more worthwhile (i.e. not test shots / jokes / screw ups on the processing front) things would be posted in the new section, leaving "show us" to become a de-facto "film photo's for fun", but i'd underestimated its pull - guess it's so big now that it's developed it's own gravitational system.

Must admit though, that other than the occasions when I've tried to revive the "film showcase" (another thing that's pretty much died of apathy and lack of nominations) I don't really step more than a couple of pages back through the thread.

I don't see much of a way around that problem tbh RJ. :(

Yep, that's correct - basically, the "upload" is just for "disposable/throwaway" stuff - I use it quite a bit for screenshots etc. if I'm helping someone out in other areas of the forum, but frankly, If I've a "proper" photo, I stick it either in my Gallery on here (which I've done for pretty much all my old POTY entries for example) or on flickr.

Personally, I feel a lot of my photos wouldn't merit their own thread in the Film photos section, but it's easy to drop a couple in the ongoing thread. It's good for a whole set I'm proud of though. So both have their uses!

It is done :D

Send me your flickr names and I'll do the inviting. Remember if your name's not on the list, you're not coming in :bat:

Since Flickr changed the way my photos are displayed (everything on one page, no spacing) I've regarded it as a terrible showcase. Add to this the arcane steps you have to take to see an image larger than the default, and it's a site I don't bother with except to use as a place to put something to get a link to show elsewhere. I moved most of my photos off when it changed, leaving only a few "serious" photos. So I wouldn't be particularly interested in moving over there.

Duly noted Stephen, we all know it's not perfect and I agree the changes that Yahoo have imposed have been detrimental to the site and other options were discussed the other night but it was agreed that Flickr was the best choice at this time.

Just to be awkward...no change there then.... I like flicker better now theyve changed it, but I do like things in neat little rows.
I'm quite happy to join this little group, these few, these happy few, this band of brothers (and sisters) etc.

Found you Andy, you are of course barred before you're even a member.

Cheers Nick! Proud to be the first poster on the group!
