Just a word to the wise, if you are planning to go to the Tower of London to see the poppies, go early in the morning ie before 8.30am. The foot traffic today was immense. They have police guiding people around the area as they are queuing to get across the road and all through the park opposite. Avoid Tower Hill tube station as you will not be able to get out of it quickly, you will need to queue to get out of it. You are best off getting off at Monument and walking, it's only a 5 minute walk. It is well worth going though, I'm lucky as I work 2 minute walk so have been able to see them from the start.
 
We went yesterday and it was manic. I got some shots but not convinced they'll be any good! But it was an amazing sight and no offence to anyone who has posted photos on here but the picutres do not do them justice.

Tower Hill station was closed yesterday so we ended up walking a fair way to get there on hte plus side I got to ride on a proper Route Master so al in all a good day
 
I went last Wednesday. In total, there were 10 people there, 6 with cameras.

Ah that's not too bad. We get our commuter coach from Tower Hill. I walked to Cannon St instead tonight, was still quite busy.

thank you - it was on the upper walkway, looking towards the river. Its a 2 shot stitch
 
We have one down there somewhere, it's a truly fitting remembrance.
 
I would like to see them but it's such a trek.
 
We took the kids up to London last week in half-term but never went to see the poppies.

Regret it now after seeing this lovely picture.

Will have to go up there on my day off.

Are they there until the new year?

They are meant to be starting the removal process on 12th but bbc are reporting that Boris is asking if its possible to keep them a bit longer due to the popularity.

Great photo Damian and probably the best view during the day, i quite like that you can see the crowds too.
 
going up tomorrow with my daughter, @Yv what lens would be best, my 12/24 or 18/70 on a crop sensor ?
 
I went yesterday. Was amazed at the crowds for 10:30 on a Tuesday morning

Either would actually get you some great pictures, if you want something more like Damian has done in here, then the 12-24. The 18-70 will give you similar to the ones I got in my thread [that was the 24-70 on FX] though you could stitch several frames together too of course [Damian says his is two]
 
my shot was just with an xf1 at 25mm, I took two and did a quick stitch in PSE11
 
Thanks Yvonne I took both but in the end just used the 18/70.
Wow isn't it just amazing, I was interviewed for BBC Radio Oxford
then asked by the presenter if I would take a picture of him for their website, feel quite chuffed :)
Yes it was fairly crowded, but not too bad did mange to get up to the railings to get
some decent pictures .........................hopefully :rolleyes:
 
Are the poppies accessible all day/night long? Was going to go very early morning/middle of night to miss crowds!
 
popped down there at lunchtime today and the crowd was pretty immense! The poppies were pretty impressive in the flesh though

 
I think the best time to go is early in the morning, work colleague went today at lunch time and did say it was busy. I went yesterday morning about 7.30 and it was quiet.

My last chance to get there again is going to be Sunday night as I'm at work Mon,Tue, & Weds night.

Hopefully it'll be a night night, probably not going there till midnight ish as I have to stay up.

Lighting on until midnight now and then again from 4am

also projection of falling poppies onto 'Big Ben' Sunday from 5.30pm

Does anyone know how long the poppies are up for?
 
According to the BBC part of the display will stay until the end on the month.

I still haven't been able to go but I caught a glimpse of them a few days ago when I took my little girl to the Shard.
I only had my wide angle lens so not ideal but this is what they look like from the Shard (I know the photos are not great but they serve a purpose I guess).

We went "early" Saturday morning. Got there before 7,30 but it was bus busy even then, by 8.30 it had come to a standstill. What a wonderful sight.....
 
In a red top this morning someone I've never heard of (actress? celebrity?) was saying that the display should be destroyed by a tank and the pieces left shattered like the bodies on the battlefield... that'd make a great image... she said. I wonder if she's considered the money the sale of the poppies is raising and the good it'll do. Stupid woman (IMVHO.)

I daresay she was trying to make a point about the carnage of WW1, comments probably taken out of context... surely the press don't do that sort of thing!!!
