Touring UK, help me plan a root!

Hi all,

As the title says, I am planning to do a tour of the whole of UK (mainland England, Scotland and Wales) and would like to get some pointers on where to go, what are MUST see, and where to stay.

To give you a bit of a head’s up on some of the limitations I have planed for myself: -

1. I don’t want to go on any motorway, if possible.
2. I don’t want to go into any city, or large inhabited areas.
3. I only want to stay in bread & breakfast.
4. I would much prefer to stick on a coastal root.
5. Planning to spend between 30 ~ 45 days in the whole trip.
6. I do have TomTom to help me get from one point to the next, hopefully without getting lost.
7. I want to shoot as much as I can to capture the “essence” of the UK.
8. Am planning this to start off in late January / early February

So, that said, could you please give me as much pointers as you possibly can.

Thats a lot on 40 ish days lol, only bit i can offer is Dorset coast 'Durdle Door' and all around that area, google it and you will see what i mean. There is a good coast line for walking and photography i go down a few times each year .... sad i know but i have the gps location of the visitors car park on my TomTom :lol:

...just checking - the whole of the UK would include Northern Ireland, no? Or do you mean Britain, ie. England, Wales and Scotland?

I'm not from G. Britain, so not entirely sure... :thinking:
 
If your coming up to Scotland, go the west coast route on the A82. Loch Lomond, Glencoe, Fort William, then turn off the A82 onto the A87. This will take you towards Kyle of Lochalsh, past Eilean Donan Castle and then onto Skye. In Skye, places like Elgol and the 'Old Man of Storr' are quite popular photographic locations. I'd also recommend going further north too, up by Kinlochewe and Loch Maree.

My aunt and uncle have a B&B on the edge of Loch Maree with stunning views over Loch Maree. Check out http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/ too.

I would love to include N. Ireland too, but not too sure I'd have enough time for that; as such, I may have to pass on that .. however, if someone talks me into it then may be I'm open to change my plan.

As for the 40 days, I may be willing to stretch that up to 60 days ... but that would only be possible if something ULTRA tempting.

Actually, I'm originally from Saudi Arabia .. so excuse my fault on this. I was in a big hurry to run out for my birthday party, which I haven't had one in God knows how many years :p

if you end up in sussex you need to go to boxhill when the bikers go up with their harleys.
 
Please keep the idea coming :)

To give you all a bit of why I am planning this. I have been fighting one of the worst fights a person can fight for many years; I've ended-up coming back to UK (I used to live here when I was a kid) to do some studies while I recoperate. Once my studies are over I will have the time to tour the UK while I "relax" and "unwind".

I want to see what I couldn't see for many many many years.

So, please keep the ideas flowing.

What time of year is that?

I may end-up getting myself a Harley when I am back in Saudi, but who knows :D
 
all the time i think. have a look on the harley forums, theyll be on there.
 
East Sussex -
Birling Gap and Beachy Head
Pevensey Castle (ruins) and drive inland though narrow lanes across Pevensey Marshes, very bleak at that time of year but you can get some fantastic skies
Hastings Old Town, Fishing area, Pier, East and West Hills
Bodium Castle
Bedgebury Pinetum - National Pine tree collection and forest, beautiful if it snows (I think this is actually Kent but only just)
Rye - cobbled streets and hilly, market day Thursday
 
That time of year is perfect for lake district. For a real beutiful lake you must visit Tarn Hows. There are countless other things around the lakes. If I were you, become a member of the national trust, then you get to visit lots of national trust places for free! Thats what we do.
