Tour de France 2014

I'm certainly looking forward to going and seeing it, although I haven't picked where, int he York area, I'm going to go yet.

I was going to but now will be abroad for business :(

shame about wiggins in my opinion. his form this year has been as good as his TdF winning year.

its unfortunate that Froome is on the same form and is defending champ.

Passes just by our village so we will be heading out to watch. Will take the camera but not sure if I will get any shots

Can't wait for it to be over, it's all we have heard about for months but i suppose it did get the roads fixed for a while

Has anyone been to something like the grand depart before? I've heard that there's a good atmosphere and a load of promotional stuff given out by the sponsors beforehand.

I did see Stage 1 last time it was in the UK and it was awesome. Great atmosphere, very entertaining publicity caravan, and yes, lots of freebies to be had.

I was at the opening ceremony and first few stages of the Giro this year ,atmosphere was great and loads of stuff given away, great banter with the Cyclist's and teams too especially during the practice for the team time trial .

Wife is think of going as in Cambridge but can't see the point tbh. I mean all that hassle to see them pass by in 20 seconds!!

It was a great thing to be watch the last time it happened TBH.
Great crowd in Wrotham and fantastic to watch.

I'm with you on this one. I have absolutely no interest in this at all.

Some of us don't have a choice "when the lads in lycra" come to town

Bamboo canes through the front spokes Neil. That's usually a hoot!!:D:D

Wiggo didn't rule himself out of the Tour, it was Brailsford who decided that he didn't want any "complications", and only wanted one leader. I would guess that it is more than likely Froome who doesn't want Wiggo to be part of the team.
Such a pity that we will not see the greatest ever British cyclist (IMO) in the biggest race on British roads.

Wiggins has to take some of the blame. He waited 14 months to pay Froome his bonus after the tour. If I was Froome I wouldn't want him. Wiggins is a fantastic cyclist but he isn't the future of British cycling, its people like Froome who are. Froome probably believes that he can win without him and the inevitable hassle that would come..

Agreed. 100%. Wiggins is too volatile and not a team player.

I agree Sky have treated him badly... no wonder some of the high profile team members want out
Boassan Hagen Thomas and no doubt Wiggins will soon be gone

It passes by us, very close, but wil be watching it on eurosport, dont want to watch 5 mins live then take me 2 hours to get a few miles home, so watch the whole stage on tv along with the F1.

I've been a TdF fan for quite a few years now. I policed it last time it was in London and it was a fantastic event. Last year I went to an individual time trial stage in France and that was a great day (it gives the opportunity to see the riders on their own and get some good shots of them). This year I tried to get on the escort for it but I think it's being done by the Yorkshire officers with the Gendarmes. I will be policing it somewhere, but this time I don't think I'll be very close.

I'm more looking forward to the battle for green than yellow and I hope Cav does the business and sets some records.

No not good for cav but good day for yorkshire, I thought it was fantastic how many crowds were along the route.

Stage one came through my town today and it was awesome... the crowds were unbelievable I never dreamt that so much would be going on the parade of cars buses etc went on for 2 hours - the Helicopters filling the sky was like watching Apocalypse Now
best event in the North of England in my lifetime

I managed to get a good spot to watch the Tour yesterday just outside York (so they were properly riding not just the parade bit). It was brilliant! Stood by the roadside I couldn't believe and close and fast they passed.
Shame it's all over now as I think Yorkshire did a good job of hosting it.

IMHO it has been a wonderful Tour this year

every day has been interesting

Vincenzo Nibali has been outstanding, the young French guys inspirational and no one Sprinter has really dominated

Looking forward to watching, (on TV), the final 30 minutes in Paris on Saturday ……… hope the sun shines for everyone

The riders really need to be congratulated, "men of steel"

Sir Brad has started gradually to let his views be known - subtly of course ……. always love what he has to say

I agree Bill, a brilliant Tour.

I am in awe of any rider who can, towards the end of a big climb, just step out of the saddle and accelerate away; though Nibali has shown he can do it better than most.

Dave
