I do a lot of fishing and as a result spend a lot of time smashing through undergrowth and submerged in water, laying on rocks etc... My poor little Canon compact has now taken all it can of the abuse involved in trying to get shots in these circumstances and after the latest in a repeated line of dunkings has given up the ghost. Looking for a replacement and came across the Pentax WG-1, waterproof and tough sounds perfect.

What other options are worth considering? The camera will mostly be used for portrait style shots of fish and landscape shots of the rivers and valleys I am lucky enough to have access to.

Must be- tough and waterproof with good image quality

Preferably - able to take decent macro and underwater photos

Cheers in advance

?? no-one have any opinions about any of the tough compacts ont he market?

I'm currently looking at the Lumix TS3 for the purpose you describe if that helps?

Nikon have released the AW100, but looking at it, its considerably more expensive than the pentax you've found!

The Gadget Show had a test on a few such cameras the other week. Did you see it? It should be on their website.

I have an Olympus Tough 8000 which I let the kids use. Happy with the pictures considering the spec. It struggles with low light shots, usually ramping up the ISO and gets noisy. But then, if it's the difference between a noisy water shot and no shot, I take the former! :-)
