ok so I no nothing about this except that I know I have a webcam on my notebook!

I would like to have my webcam running all day and send the images (or even just sound) to a website where I can view it at some other location - ability to do this with an HTC smart phone would be good too.

this is so I can keep an eye on the dog while I'm at work.

any ideas? google is very confusing if you don't know what you're doing...

I use a program called WebcamXP. Pretty easy to setup, the only "fiddly" bit can be setting up your router to forward the stream :)

Hi Brian, would I need my own website to stream to?

There was a fashion for a while on some of the reefkeeping forums for sharing webcam streams from our aquaria, I used Camstreams. They provide the software and the hosting site. I'm not sure about functionality for viewing on Android. I'm sure someone will do something that's Android compatible these days - I'm sure I've seen a babyminder app or something similar.

Or, Been'n'Queued, Screwfix, etc stock DIY alarm systems with monitoring cameras. The ones I saw last were modular, so you could pick and choose which elements you added and it had a web-based alert/monitoring package.

I have just applied to Camstreams, registration isn't instant it seems!

My company are very restrictive about web site access so unless I can persuade them to allow me temporary access until her stitches are out (the dog) then I guess with this system other friends and family can keep an eye on her and text me if there's a problem.

she's wearing my old tights to attempt to stop her from biting the stitches, and I'm more worried about her getting in a tangle than much else :)
