Recently, thanks to the credit crunch, I had to sell my beloved camera and gear. So I thought today I would cheer myself up and enjoy the sunshine and take the family out to the local Zoological park. What a mistake...I knew I would see them but didn't realise just how effected I would be! Toggers everywhere and anywhere and all I could do was look on in jealousy and despair! What it did do is make me more determined to get back and togging again!...but who knows when:'(

Why not try for a compact? you can pick up a decent spec for very little money (~£50), you don't need top of the range gear to take good pictures

Sorry to hear of your predicament; but as has been stated by Steep, you don't need expensive gear for good shots.

A good 2nd-hand D40 and a nifty-fifty is more than a capable set-up. I've used it happily, and continue to do so under many circumstances.

I hope things brighten-up for you, very soon.

Aww I felt your pain there. But you can easily get hold of a Fuji S5600 in near mint condition from Ebay for around £50. I found myself using my own's more than my D40 as it's light and compact, and while you will never expect D700-quality shots out of a S5600, it still holds it's own very nicely in the world of digital photography.
If I ever lose my S5600 for one reason or another, I wouldn't hesitate for one second about getting another one as a cheerful knock-about camera. So, go on, treat yourself to it, you deserve it. :) And when the situation improves for you and you're able to buy a "proper" DSLR camera, you can use the Fuji as a knockabout every-day camera.

I just want to congratulate you on your willpower and prioritisation. Some folk get into huge amounts of debt and are still unwilling to sell their stuff. With your attitude I don't think you'll be poor for long. When you have more than you can afford you end up just covering the interest on things and paying forever and ever and having a poor standard of living forever and ever so well done you for tackling your situation and making a sacrifice. I'm impressed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hang in there.

I agree with Tumbleweed. I think its really unselfish of you to sell your gear. I dont have much money as I am retired and had to save for ages to get a DSLR. Up til then I had been using a compact and having lots of fun with it. I hope you can get one cheap and that things pick up for you and your family soon.

Thanks...I am trying my best but it is hard as you can imagine. I am of the opinion that once all is sorted out I will have the willpower to save for what I really want! The missus has always stood by me and it is only fair to put her first...but in the words of Arnie...I'll be back!

You're right - your family has to come first and just think, maybe you wouldn't have been able to afford to have a quality day out at the zoo with them if you hadn't sold your camera kit. Photo's of days out are great, but memories of time spent with the people you love are better.

Still - I feel your pain. Here's hoping you will be back to photography with a vengance soon ;)

I'll just come here and say I agree with everything that has already been said.

Also, how about a film camera? It's no money whatsoever to get a camera, looking at £20 for a top quality camera. My AE-1 is mint condition and was only £25 ish.

Then film is really cheap, £2 for a roll of film from 7dayshop. It's a little bit of money every now and again.

Hang in there bud :)
