I hope i'm not annoying anyone with all these question threads, so if i am, i apologise :lol: As some of you may have read i'm off to the Czech Republic for afew days at the end of October. After some recent acquisitions i'm taking some 35mm in the form of an F90 and some MF in the form of a Agfa Silette I.

Now my conundrum is that i love slide film and because i'm looking to spend abit on it i want to get it right, but looking through 7dayshop i can only get it in ISO100 or 50 which may be alittle slow for a dreary day in eastern Europe. I'm steering away from shooting any film indoors because that'll just raise it's own issues, there'll be a d*****l body there too for that. At the same time the only colour negative film that i really like is Ektar but that's going to give me the same problems :lol: Afew years ago i would have just gone for some Sensia 400 but the less said about that the better :( There'll be a tripod in attendance but setting that up for every shot may get tiresome :lol:


Question is, what would you do? Take the faster negative and live with the consequences or stay true to my faith and stick with the slide. In my head i'm imagining the red roofs, autumn skies falling red leaves looking lovely on abit of Velvia but that's just me :lol: Knowing my luck i'll get bare trees and grey skies :lol:
 
You can get Provia 400 still.
 
Well if you decide neg film, then my choice would be Fuji Superia 200...very good general purpose film when I can't use Fuji Reala 100 ISO (which unfortunately Fuji are not making anymore).
 
You're right, not much choice out there if you want reversal film Provia 120 and Provia 35mm

The only colour neg film I like is Portra so I'd be tempted to to take a few rolls of that as well.
 
Provia 400 might be the compromise i was looking for :D It's definitely given me something to consider anyway. I think when it comes down to it, getting shots with more grain is more important than not getting shots at all because i CBA with the tripod every 5 minutes. It's not a photography trip despite the presence of 3 cameras and i can't see my other half being very happy about waiting for me every 5 minutes :lol:

Time for the bank account to take another hit, 3 rolls of 35 and a 5 pack of 120 plus delivery is £80 :eek: that's not even taking processing into account :lol:

Portra is also available in 400 and 800 too, it's not something that i've considered before and when bought in a 5 pack works out abit cheaper too!

Why not find something gritty and eastern european to use? B&W preferably. Fomapan might suit! Its cheap... ;)
 
Have you considered a monopod? Much smaller, lighter and much more manoeuvrable than a traditional tripod.
 
A monopod hadnt really entered into my mind. The tripods going because i wanted to try some long exposures at night, and will be a smaller travel affair. I do have a monopod but it's by no means a travel affair :lol:

That thought had crossed my mind Jim, but my craving for slide took over. It would only seem fitting to fit the Agfa with some though seeing as Foma is made just 100km from Prague where i'm visiting. The camera itself was built over the border in Germany, the original Isolettes were known as Soldier's camera's so it might feel at home invading Czechoslovakia for afew days :bat:

Another vote for Provia 400. I've only used it a couple of times but on both occassions it's done wonders. If you're not too tied to slide I would suggest Portra 400 as the ultimately flexible colour film though, very pushable with no change in dev, and if you did want to take the hit on getting it pushed it looks even better
 
I think Provia 400 is a "while you can get it" film, officially discontinued. But yes, a plus vote from me.
 
That seems to be the case looking round Chris, I'll make the most of it while I can, although I best not fall in love with it :lol:
 
Well, trigger pulled on a 5 pack of Portra 400 for the 35mm and a 5 pack of Provia 400 for the 120 :D Can't wait to get there now :D

I should have looked into Portra a long time ago, looking through Flickr it looks like it could be my kind of film :D and more importantly not discontinued :lol: Thanks for the heads up Nick and Chris :D
