Hi... Not sure if this is in the right category because even though it's regarding a torch I didn't see it as "lighting" as such.

Anyway... I have had a couple of LED Lenser torches that have ended up with the batteries leaking (my fault for leaving them in). So I'm now looking to buy a replacement but considering a different brand as the last one I bought (an L7) I was a bit disappointed with because of how the batteries fitted (design flaw in my opinion). So does anyone have recommendations of torches that are not huge but are very bright with a long beam? Similar to Lenser P7.

My main usage is for when I go out into middle of nowhere at night in search of dark sky or slightly remote or off the beaten track locations to be there way before sunrise.

Thanks that's just the type of suggestions I'm looking for although the LED Lenser isn't brilliant for lighting subjects as it's a bit too harsh even in the toned down mode. I'll look into the FD40.
 
Torch direct is a reputable uk retailer and good priced, you can get a clip on red filter, combined with the medium setting on the FD40 this gives enough light to be able to see enough to walk comfortably. can up the power for rougher areas. There are youtube videos on creating your own filters so if too white can make a yellower filter or any other colour you want. Uses 18650 rechargable batteries can often get a battery thrown in and the Fennix aer-1 charger is good value
 
Go Outdoors stock a good range of torches, not sure what brand they are but i got one and it's great. Very bright, well made (Aluminium i think), great battery life.
And about half the price of an LED Lenser.
 
Not the cheapest but excellent quality, I use Nitecore. I have two torches (P12gt and a MT25) and a head torch (HC30).

The HC30 is excellent, on one 18650 battery it will output 1000 lumens on max or you can run it at 1 lumen (enough to read by) for over 13 days!! I use mine when out fishing on the beach at night and flip between 70 and 210 lumens. Enough time to run from dusk until dawn.

It is also waterproof, submersible to 2m. It comes off the head band to use as a hand held torch with a clip.

If I lost mine I would buy the same again.

I could be wrong but this is why I use decent rechargeable batteries in most of my devices that sit around a while, I've yet to ever have one leak.

This is a good shout and my next torch will have these in. I have a converted torch with a infra red bulb in for the home made night scope that uses these, very good.
I have an LED Lenser M7 that isn't rechargeable at the moment, takes 4x AA batteries.

For general use, don't discount a good headtorch. I have a black diamond from Cotswold Outdoors which is excellent.
 
I have used an olight m20x warrior (500 lumens) for what must be a couple of years, This I believe us the updated version of it. It has performed flawlessly even when running for an hour constantly. There is a red filter and and a diffuser filter are available for it.

I agree and probably would combine one with the torch if out shooting in the dark, They are great for hands free looking for stuff in a bag or setting controls especially if combined with a red LED. Prefer the torch for searching which was my primary use when looking for last dogs.
