Topman help - Shoes are broken, where do i stand?

I barely spend more than £15 on a pair of shoes. They seem to last me a year maybe. But then I work from home etc, so they do exactly get over used.

Edit: I realise that the title of this thread had an unexpected pun

Just as well I noticed this edit Sean because I was just about to draw your attention to that and the same line at the end of your post in defence of those of us who thought it was a wind up.:D

my old man always used to say you need to spend your money on "good shoes and a good bed , cos if you're not in one you're in the other !"

I wasn't even aware that there was such a thing as driving shoes. Excuse my bluntness but is it so much to ask for shoes to last the 20 minutes drive to/from work, twice a week? Even if they're not driving shoes?

I wrecked an £80 pair of Kickers very quickly when I started driving and realised that it was the weight of my legs pulling the upper backwards off the soles when my heels were resting in the footwell that did it.

It wasn't Kickers fault, I'd used the shoes in a way not intended by the manufacturer.
You can drive nails into a wall with a D3, but would you be sympathetic to a customer that caused damage to his camera by doing that, even if only occasionally?

I wouldn't expect many people to spend £100+ on a pair of shoes just for popping into town, but look at the heels, I use a pair of Puma trainers that have similar wrap around heels so are well suited to driving as they support weight in that direction.

most of the puns I had thought of have been used
so I will forgo that simple pleasure (albeit very reluctantly :D)
TBH I would be really p'ssed if that had happened to me.

I would be inclined to go to the shop
and "negotiate" rather loudly if the initial softly spoken
"enquiry" was met with a negative response
probably a Saturday afternoon when the shop was quite busy would "work" for me.
After all they cannot deny that they are their product, and assuming that the "uppers"
are still in good condition surly that would give an indication as to age
or usage.

You could always ask them to check their records, I do but it rarely works :D
Good luck if you decide to give it a go

It can't be denied that the soles have cracked but they do look as if they have had a lot of wear, if you look at the heels they are well worn down.

Sean, on the evidence of the wear could it be you do not lift your feet sufficiently when you walking:shrug:.

I think this would have been a better thread had it really been a wind up:lol:

Yeah Galaxy I think I need a class on walking! Seriously! I must do!

I think the soles might be plastic... hence the crack!

Cyclone, fair point. I need to invest in some proper trainers anyway so I might as well kill 2 birds with one stone!

I

If it was a Jessops product that had failed we'd probably sort it out for them. If it was a generic brand (lowepro, canon, manfrotto etc) we'd firstly ask for a receipt, if not we'd have the receipt on our database, if still nothing, tell them to go away because they can't prove it was bought from us.

A sole fell off my Grenson's, I was treated to a very nice Coffee and a replacement pair, I had only had them a couple of weeks though. Very apologetic shop manager and I will buy the brand again.
Buy proper shoes and they will last a very long time, may have to be re-soled but will last. Shoe wise I think all but 1 of my 30 odd pairs are leather soled, superb !

My late Father was a shoe maker and taught me right, I may have been bullied at school when all my mates had Doc's - I had a pair of leather soled Brogues, not cool at 12 years of age, wouldn't have it any other way now !

Not sure what you're getting at Flash?

If it was my improper use of the word 'generic' then get over it :naughty:

Always the life and sole of the forum... :naughty:

I like that:thumbs:

I bought a pair of shoes from Dorothy perkins which cost £40 on friday afternoon and they never lived to see Monday morning, apparently "fashion" shoes aren't for general wear, which in my case turned out to be anything other then sun because it rained and the sole fell off, the colour ran and the elasticated part across the front snapped. not to mention the nearly £60 worth of clothes I bought at the same time which lasted less then a week.

I never once considered bringing any of it back, I just declined to offer them my money for future purchases, as the argument to get it fixed wasn't worth the time or effort I just learnt my lesson. you get what you pay for and obviously neither of us paid enough to expect any real usage out of our items. :/

I would not accept that, to have us all believe that would be the holy grail for manufacturers and retailers, they would then have the Chinese churn them all out using cheaper materials not meant to last a few outings.

Take the lot back to DP.

Nothing personal, but it is because the Brits have a reputation of never complaining about poor service and goods that we are sold rubbish and have to endure poor service industries.

As for myself, I will NOT accept inferior goods or service. I could write a book about my experiences of goods I have refused or returned or services I have complained about, from a cold cup of coffee to 30 ton load of building stone that was nothing but rubble!!.

This is close to the most ridiclous thing I think I've ever read on a forum!

Although you may see it as ridiculous, my sense of humour sees it as quite humorous.:)

I enjoyed it.

I'd expect a pair of shoes to last at least a year, no matter how much they cost...

I did find myself rather astounded when the woman in the shop told me that, but apparently nothing in Dorothy Perkins or Evans is expected to last, I didn't bother with the clothes purely for one reason only - the jeans zipper broke, I tried to return jeans to another branch before and was told in not so many flattering words if my arse were not so big my zippers wouldn't break.

to be honest I'd love to be able to have a rant because I know its wrong and as a customer i have a right to good quality when I'm paying for it, but I don't have the self control to not lose it because somehow whenever I complain about something clothes related its down to the size of your body, even the shoes apparently "look like they were worn hard" part of the heel was made out of wood. walked as far as the bus stop and half the shoes heel was gone.

the customer is always right unless they're shopping in a plus size shop, where even the staff refuse to wear the clothes because they know how rough they are. I'm glad I no longer shop there, thinking about it depresses me.

FP - After working for 7 years for topman I can tell you as long as you kick up enough of a fuss they will most likely give you a replacement pair.

The firm however is not topman but lloyds shoes, so they have their own refund policy. It's best to pop into the branch and ask. Explain that you wear them twice a week for a part time job and that they haven't lasted half a year. Try to see the manager(of lloyds not topman) or the full timer as a part time member will either not know what to do or wont have the authority to do anything for you. What you'll get depends on the staff member that serves you i'm afraid. Some will bend over backwards and others will tell you where to go
