I have the opportunity to try my first airshow shoot in a few weeks and my longest lens currently is 70mm.!

So im looking at renting one in, any advice on lens as i have never shot planes before?

Thanks in Advance

Not sure about renting but I've seen some very good results at airshows with as little as the canon 55-250 and that penny's to buy!!

Im happy renting as i have used a company lots before, will the 250mm be close enough is my question?

I was thinking in the 400mm prime range?

The 100-400mm is used a lot at Airshows. Highly regarded by some. Seen some cracking shots from it.

I used a Tamron 28-300 VC and a Canon 100-400 L and a 550D at last year's Waddington airshow and got some fantastic shots with the 100-400. I went armed this year with a 60D with a Sigma 120-400 OS and a 5D3 with a Sigma 150-500 OS and although the weather was very poor and the light even worse I still managed to get some good shots.

The 150-500 OS is great for airshows and wildlife/birds and would probably be cheaper to hire than the Canon. Here's one from the show taken at 1/1000, f6.3, ISO640 and +1 ex comp.

So out of the two canon 100-400 or Sigma 150-500 you would go with the sigma?

By the way great photo.
