Topaz Denoise problem

Since upgrading to the latest version last week I have been unable to open Denoise AI. They say they are aware of the problem advised me to uninstall it and return to v3.0.3.

Just a thought for some of you perhaps.....

I had the same problem- I did just that :)

Interesting. I didn't have any problem with the new version but I find that the new Severe Noise option removes too much detail from the image.

My upgrade went seamlessly, I use as plugin to LR and tend to use in AI mode mostly....

has it now been resolved?

There always seems to be reported problems when they release an updated version.
TBH I always wait about 4 weeks before updating.
I guess I'm running a version behind, but I've had no problems doing it that way...

I updated today and it all went smoothly. I was not sure I needed to upgrade but tempted by the extreme noise feature. A year ago I never used any Denoise as I almost exclusively used a Canon 5D4 at no more than ISO 3200. Recently I have been using my Sony A6600 and have regularly used it at ISO 1600 which does need some Denoise. I had been using Auto ISO and once accidently touched to ISO button which moved it to the next setting which was 102,400. Denoise AI V3.0 could not improve this enough but the latest version set to extreme Noise does clean it BUT as suggested above, it leaves the image a little soft. While this is not surprising, nevertheless, it could rescue the odd snap but would not be OK for a competition pic.

The new severe noise feature is good at removing heavy film grain on digitised pictures and as way better for this than anything else I have used,

Hi,

I've just been away for a few days but before I left I had an email from Topaz asking me if I could help solve the problem for them! Now i'm back I'll have a go at it when i have time.
Yeah they asked me the same a while back. I wont be doing it again.

I've just upgraded and had no problems using it as a plugin to DxO Photolab on a Mac (Catalina)

Slightly off topic...

I thought I'd try it out on a 12k iso pic and compare with Photolab Deep Prime. I tried tweaking the sharpness and detail recovery to get more detail from Topaz. I think the background looks better in Topaz, but the badger looks better in Photolab. (Denoise on the left)

I agree with your thinking there. The Denoise b/g looks much smoother but the badger looks too smooth; all the detail has disappeared.. Would there be any way of selecting the b/g in the right hand image and only denoising that?

That is a good point. It occurred to me that when I export it from Photolab into Denoise, I could have left Deep Prime on - then I could have masked out the badger in Denoise - I think that would give me the best of both worlds. Something to bear in mind for if I ever have to shoot a badger again at 9pm :)
