Top Gear Patagonia Special

With Top Gear you can be pretty much sure it was a reference to the Falklands. On one of the links an interesting comment was made by someone saying what would Americans do if an Arab version of Top Gear was driving about with 911 SEP as a number plate?

Yes because us British are such a lovely non-violent bunch aren't we.
No, I think we British are one of the most belligerent countries when it comes to conflict outside of Great Britain but one of the world's most tolerant societies too, paradoxically perhaps.

Personal opinion . . . But I think the truth is most likely a mix of coincidence and deliberate intent with that numberplate.

No doubt at all that the plate was genuine and with that car from first registration, and clearly not a complete coincidence that a 928 had a plate featuring the number 982. IMO that was almost certainly a deliberate decision by the dealership/purchaser who first registered it.

Neither do I believe for a second that the TG crew went deliberately searching for cars with controversial numberplates.
However, on looking for appropriate, available cars for the show and finding one with that particular plate I don't think the possible interpretation of it would have been completely lost on everyone involved - and I think the opportunity to buy that particular car with that particular plate would have been too much of a temptation to resist.

Clarkson specifically wanted a 928 GT with a manual gearbox. They found 2 of them in the whole country and they bought the better of the two.

Tell you what, look at autotrader. How many 928's on there? (Hint none)
Now let's look at pistonheads classified, a specialist site - there's 3 gt's out of 17 of which two are manuals. That's about it, we're not talking mass produced with thousands of choices and that's the same that the BBC has said it had the choice of, two cars.

Regardless of the number plate. It was absolutely appalling behaviour by those Argentinians. Bunch of muppets. I'm glad they left that part in the show. They just don't get it. But what I don't get is that people on here come across as excusing them as well. Madness.

I only managed 20 minutes of this drivel before boredom set in, nice scenery but you can get that on a travel programme, top gear is going quickly downhill with the throttle flat on the floor. IMHO.
