Touch wood, I have been very lucky in the "gnasher" department, in my late fifties and only three filling. However, last week I had really bad pains in the side of my face and went to the dentist, who informed me that I should take a course of antibiotics, and then they would look into possible removing a wisdom tooth. Well that was thursday, and I wasn't too phased by it.
However, whilst eating my brekky yesterday, I had an excruciating pain from the opposite side of my mouth (which I was using to try to avoid annoying the sore area). I swallowed the mouthful which I was eating (probably not a great aidea thinking about it), and then a bout of really bad pain followed, together with the realisation that there was a gap in my upper row of teeth, and whatever used to be in the gap was now well on its way into my tummy.
Fortunately I managed to get some emergency treatment, which involved a bit of drilling, packing and a temporary cap.
There is a dull pain from the broken tooth, and the antibiotics for the wisdom tooth are making me feel sick and dizzy, plus of course I cannot take any alcohol (for medicinal purposes of course) for another three days.
I will also have to visit my dentist tomorrow (instead of 19th September) to advise him of some more work which needs done. From what I understand it is root canal work - not looking forward to that.
Oh well, at least it is sunny outside.

You've done well thus far to only have 3 fillings, but age/wear is now catching up I guess.
Similar ages to yourself, my moneyboss had a root canal done not long ago (antibiotics & 2 further visits to completion) then a couple of weeks ago I broke a tooth & had to go for a temp filling. I'm booked in for 2 more visits in the coming weeks. Luckily we get NHS treatment so cost isn't too bad I suppose.

This getting old aint gonna make things better I guess :(

Stop the world I wanna get off! :runaway:

I,m in my 70's two fillings ,one back tooth long gone ,all the rest intact and looking good ,not been to the dentist for 20 years or more .makes me wonder some times if they make things better or worse

Funny you should say that, because my OH is a regular dentist goer, and they always seem to find something wrong with her teeth.

Never had any problem with root canal work Andy, although it was a few years ago.
I thought it was going to be something awful but from what I remember it was no different from getting a filling.

Root canal isn't that bad, it just takes a long time. I've had three of the damn things.

I've always had terrible trouble with my teeth, got a mouthful of fillings, crowns and bridges despite always brushing twice a day, regular flossing and daily use of mouthwash. (Ok some of those are due to a bike accident.) Meanwhile my two kids are in their 20s, seem to take minimal care of their teeth and only have one filling between the pair of them. Not fair!

My OH is forever flossing, and I have never done it in my life. I think I tried once but gave up when I couldn't find any gaps.
