I've been suffering from toothache for a couple of days, kept awake by the undescribable pain! I'm not registered with a dentist, haven't been in 17 years due to some pretty invasive treatment as a youngster that's left me with a phobia!

I had to contact NHS24 to get an emergency appointment, it transpires that I had a wisdom tooth coming through, there wasn't enough room in my mouth for it and it's trying to throw it's weight about!

I went to the dentist today, thinking that extracting a wisdom tooth was a general aneasthetic hospital job, imagine my shock and horror when the dentist informs me she's taking it out right there and then! The fear and worry in the 10 minute period whilst the aneasthetic done it's thing was horrible, but the extraction was pretty uncomfortable, but pretty painless, although the sight of the pliers was a bit worrying!

Me and the tooth have now went our separate ways and it's an arrangement that appears to be suiting us both!

Dave

Aww bless.......

I'd of done it for you with string and a door knob :)

Like you Dave, I have a phobia of dentists (being tied into the chair when I was a kid is what did it, I think....). I broke a tooth about 2 weeks ago, and I know it's going to come back to haunt me, but I just can't face going unless I really, really have too.

Sounds like it all went OK for you, but I feel your fear, I really do

Yep. Same here.
Terrified of them.
I have a broken tooth right now. Not causing any grief, so I'll wait untill it does before I go!!

I was at the dentist today too...

I don`t really mind them usually but it cost me loads of £££`s... they know how to charge that`s for sure.

So that's where my fourth wisdom tooth went!

I've had thee come through now. The first was impacted, coming through at 45 degrees and I got infection upon infection (I was at uni at the time) until I could get home to my dentist. Thanks for the reminder!

I thing I will say though is in about six month (ish) time, it may well hurt again. Don't worry it's a ghost. Just pop a couple of happy pills! Apparently it happens to quite a few people.

Hang on a minute!

What happened to the tooth fairy?!!

I'm sure a donation from the fairy of enough to buy a new camear or lens etc should ease the pain!!

When I went to the dentist I had a molar with crumbly dentine so the dentist drilled it to a sharp pointy thing, the dental nurse mixed a filling that was so dry that it wouldn't stick together, the dentist complained to her about this but decided to perceiver with it anyway. I went away with a sharp tooth with a crumbly filling. A few weeks later the filling fell out I was in incredible pain and had to go back and wait one and a half hours to have it extracted. What a marvelous service we have. On the plus side, when I had it extracted it didn't hurt - it was a different dentist and he was

I can sympathise, on the 5th Dec i go to hospital for 6 root extractions and a wisdom tooth, luckily i will be under anaesthethic but the recovery time is gonna be looong. I also hate dentists after some nasty treatment years ago but in the last 6 months of reoccuring abcesses i have found a new healthy love for them :)

I was in hospital a few years ago for a lumpectomy - they had to give me painkillers for toothache rather than the results of the op. On the way home from hospital I went to the dentist and he removed an upper wisdom tooth - bliss - the instant relief from pain was wonderful

Three or four years ago after constant infections he decided the time had come to remove my two impacted lower wisdom teeth but upon x-raying decided he was not going to touch them - something about the roots being tangled up with my toes they were so long!!

Went into hospital to have them out but I would not stop bleeding so they had to take me back into theatre and pack them. Afterwards the surgeon told me that was only the second time that had happened in his long career and it was the first time any of the nurses had ever seen a patient using a suction machine on themselves which I was doing between theatre visits :D Once that was over I got much healthier and pain free without all the constant infections.

I now have my remaining wisdom tooth trying to come though :(

I'm glad I'm not the only one terrified of them, thought I was just a big Jessie, reassuring to see there's lots of us!!
