Yes
I took some of my landscape shots down to my local photography/painting store.
He was quite impressed and wants me to go back in May, when his business partner has left so he can try and sell some.
Only advice he had for me was to stick with local shots.

Think i'm going to go out tomorrow for some decent local shots.

I thought of doing this too, accept my local one shut down lol so there goes that idea. Mays not too far off though! So good luck!

Good luck with that. :)

I was wondering about doing a similar thing with a couple of my local shots, problem is the only place I know looks to be a big chain unfortunately.

I doub ti'll sell any but i cant wait to try.

Definitely worth a try, I have photos for sale at a couple of places in North Wales & they do o.k - won't be resigning my day job just yet though.

How do you go around doing it? Does the shop print and sell them or do you have to do the printing etc. and they give you the/a percentage of the money?

Shops / craft centres etc usually ask you to set a sale price & charge you a fixed % commission & expect you to provide them with the "final article". Commission costs can vary - typically between 20/30% although some Fine Art galleries will charge 50% !!

I have a combination of mounted prints & framed photos, I also make sure that my web address is on show in the shop for anyone who prefers "print only" or would like to see a wider selection.

Wanna buy some?

Now being serious, this is a great place to start and WILL lead to further work. Just don't sell yourself short and make sure you only submit the best you can muster.

I did a car boot sale once and had taken pictures of local interest (churches, scenery) and turned them into sepia etc and made greetings cards or just plain prints charged about £2.00 a card and didn't do to bad, so what I am getting round to saying is like the guy in the shop said shoot local and who knows they may well sell.

Good luck.

I only took into tehe shop my completely unedited photos i'd taken from anglesey and a few places. He was happy with what he saw. So i can hopefully only supply better.

Did he mention commission etc to you , try & get a bit of wall space for at least a couple of framed shots to pull people in !!

good luck, something i thought of trying myself but never got round to it.

Yea I thought about taking photos to local shops and seeing if they would like to sell any. Havent really got round to it. Even thought about sending some to magazines......just waiting till some nice days thou and get some real nice colourful shots, rather than taking some on these dull days which we have been having.
