My wife took the cat (molly) to the vet yesterday as she had a lump under her chin and loosing fur from her tail, belly and back.

the vet said its most likely cancer of the skin and not much there can be done. biopsy's have been taken and we get the results on friday. You can see she is clearly distressed and always gonig for the affected areas. The vet said the lump on her chin just maybe visible thrat cancer. it would explain why she has been off her food!

She a cat that all woke me up if i didnt respond to my alarm. we used to have conversations while i mimmicked her meows. (dont laugh) Me and the wife where a bit teary yesterday so not in the best of moods.

here she is when she was about 1

Oh no, I am so, so sorry. And I really mean it. I know what its like to lose a cat. Two even :(

I'm sorry to hear that, good luck with the results for Friday.

if it is bad news then she can have a powdered form of chemo for her skin but it still means her fur falls out and vet rekons it will help her for about a year tops.
I really dont think i want to see her go through that stress.

Sometimes, you have to be cruel to be kind :(

Sorry to hear that 33L. I've lost many cats over the years and, sadly, it never gets any easier :shake:

So sorry to hear that sad news 33L...

Hope things go as well as they can for poor molly... (and you both)

I`ve had many many cats, love them and shed many a tear over the ones I`ve lost.

I`ll keep my fingers crossed for you all.

tj.

hopefully its good news - just cant stop thinking about worst case scenarios though!

, only ever lost one dog, patch, many moons ago he was a border collie, but my sympathy goes to you and your good lady wife.

My wife is heartbroken, its a case of what treatment or if the humane thing is putting her to sleep. I dont think any of us can bare to see her is distress. Either from medication or just from the disease.

Molly looks just like my cat. Only my cats called Dave.

I'm sorry to hear your news and will keep fingers crossed for you !!

Remember reading a post here about a place called Rainbow Bridge. It made me cry.

Lets hope whatever happens, that places like this exist...

i remember that post as well. I believe it was another forum menber that had her cat clipped by a car.

not to set fear into you but how hold is your cat. apparently due to the lack of pigment in the skin skin caner is quite common in white cats of about 4 years.

Speaking as a cat owner myself and had alway owned a cat of one type or another (current one is Chad, a black cat, the former one was a chocolate burmese called Lady who lived to a ripe old age of 17) I wish you all the best with your Molly.
You think they would live forever, but then that day comes . . . never gets any easier. :(

So sorry for what Molly is going through. As has been said, sometimes you've got to be cruel to be kind ... not that it is at all easy :(

Daves 5 years old. Something for me to keep an eye on though.

Really sorry to hear that mate :(

I know what you mean about talking to the cat. I used to make a funny sounding "beebs" and poked my head around the door and I used to get a funny sound back from the cat "Suki" or "Sukes" for short..

I'm sure she won't suffer either way and have no doubt you'll decide on the right thing..

I'll watch this thread with interest

Kathy (the wife) and I are obviously waiting till friday for results of the lump if its just a cyst or benign, then we will try and sort her skin out. If it is malignent there will have to be more test to see if its affected her throat or if she may have any tumours anywhere else.
We are not contacting the insurance till friday till we know what we are dealing with.
she seemsed oblivious to her irritation yesterday but its hard not to think that she might be suffering. I guess she will have good days and bad days.

Really sad news im very sorry. Your vets may not be able to do much but try Balanced Being in Yorkshire www.balancedbeing.com

I used to be a nurse there and believe me if anybody can help your cat it is them, good luck.

thanks to the link - will let Kathy know and see what can be done.

UPDATE:

the vet has come back and its confirmed as skin cancer and its a malignant Tumour. Not really sure what to say, what to do. This is going to be a fun weekend .... not.

So sorry for the bad news.

After talking to the wife there isnt alot that can be done. The Vet has said 3 months before Molly gets really bad.

The insurance company are next to no good since its classed as chronic condition and no cure. they wont even cover a full diagnostic to see how far it has gone. We cant afford it really.

Molly can be treated for both the skin and the Tumour problem is that its not permanant and only extends life but at the same time the effects of the treatment can kill her as well.

I think we are at the decision that we will help her asmuch be comfortable and when it gets to a certain point then we will have to let her go.

I'm sorry its been bad news.

I smiled at your conversations with her, our old cat used to be very vocal and would almost talk to you, in her last days she stopped talking to us and I guess that is when I knew. I accompanied her to the vets, I cried all the way there, all the time I was in the vets and a good part of the day after that but it did help that I had been with her.

I can't really say anything to make you feel better but am thinking of you all at the moment, I guess she will be on double cuddles and treats now.

**** Lee, I am so sorry.

You know where I am if you want to vent x

I'm really sorry to hear that Lee
