I'm not a wedding photographer, but I do like photographing people. When I left the footie match on Saturday about 5 there was a wedding going on in the function suite - what a nightmare! Wedding guests in their finery milling around with the footie supporters, car park full, lordy.

Loading my stuff in the car, I noticed the b&g on the balcony with their wedding photographers - 2 women. Late summer sun coming in at a low angle, b&g up against the wooden cladding, sun in their eyes, with shadows from the overhang cutting through their faces. Didn't see any flash going off. I just wondered about the wisdom of the photographers' choice. I didn't see them change round and have the b&g with their backs to the sun with fill flash. There are some reasonable grounds just a short step away, with some greenery, which would have been in shadow. Just wondered how any of you would have approached this. Down to the b&g to choose a photogenic venue, I suppose, but how do you tackle a tricky venue?

It's a tough one. And an excellent point to bring up. I fall well into the newbie category and I would probably value input if I was in the deepend and it would help me deliver a better product and benefit from a more experienced eye. Having said that, doing anything in a way that would expose the tog to his/her shortcomings infront of a client could be very damaging to both parties.

P.S. the two quotes in your sig play off eachother nicely.

Hi Kris. I wasn't suggesting any sort of intervention, just wondering about their technique and how to deal with a similar situation. I can't say I'd have done what I saw them doing. I didn't want to take a picture of them as it seemed a bit rude, but I'll see if I can get a shot of the balcony next time I'm there for reference.

Now that sounds like a strategy! Dunno if they did that, unlikely given the club/groundsman/management.

My bad :$

The photographer is likely to be with them all day, so what happens and where people are on a moment to moment basis is pretty irrelevant... wedding photographers have to make the best of the day as it unfolds

Gee, I think the advice is never book a wedding reception at a football club unless you're a footy supporter! Some supporters were moaning that the closure of the bar after the match made them queue for ages to get a drink in the alternative bar and that the club management were more concerned about letting out the suite for a wedding than accommodating the home supporters (some 1500)! I ask you! Weddings are booked about a year ahead - no-one would've known whether there was a home match that day. You can't win.
