It goes without saying that is very sad news, the man has a very major influence on me, thus in my eyes, that makes him a legend.
I grew up with Vision On (which was one of the first programme with the Hard of Hearing in mind) and of course, Take Hart, and thus fired up my passion for artwork and cartooning. He actually defined my childhood.
I saw him in action at Folkestone when I was a kid, that's when he drew this massive horse's head using washable chalk-based paint (used for marking football pitches) on a large concrete section of the beach at Shakespeare Cliff and then made that art "come alive" using stop-motion animation. That must have involved a LOT of hard work.
I've just shed a tear now I've just finished this thread.

R.I.P. Tony Hart.

Very sad news indeed :(

Without TH and Vision On we wouldn't have been introduced to Dave Sproxton and Peter Lord's creation Morph, who gave Aardman Animations, Wallace, Grommit and fun for generations to come.

RIP Tony and thanks :)

Many thanks, Tony & Team.

Don't forget Sylvester McCoy and his machines. The guy in the labcoat was the spitting image of our grocer, who left to run a boarding house in Skegness before becoming Mayor(!). Wasn't there a furry caterpillar thing that zipped around the room? Did you fancy Pat as much as Val? The (original) Gallery music (Left Bank 2 by the Noveltones) is on a Top Gear album . . .

An absolute genius will be sadly missed.

Remember him most for Morph, made me giggle during my childhood and still does at the age of 37.

Rest in peace , Tony

Sad news.
I can remember "The Gallery" from Vision On long before Morph.

Very sad to see Tony pop off, I used to look forward to Take Hart when I was a kid, he must have influenced millions of childrens lives over the years. I used to love the way he talked to Morph :)

I read about this on BBC News this morning :( a sad day indeed.

RIP Tony.

i wonder if these people know ho wmuch influence they have on children through the years, most of us here will have seen him on tv when we where younger.

RIP

I got a picture shown once on Take Hart in the Gallery when I was a kid, I used to love that program and Morph! he'll be sadly missed! RIP

Very sad indeed.

If you look at the format for all of the current kids art programmes they all seem to still follow his format - guess he really was a genius and got it spot on first time.

I was very saddened this morning when I read the news of Tony Hart's passing. He was a favouite of mine from very early on, Vision On, Take Hart, Morph, the guys enthusiasm was infectious and his influence on thousands of kids across several generations was amzing. According to the reports he wasn't able to draw anymore after his strokes, a fact he considered his hardest cross to bear and whilst I don't generally believe in any kind of after-life, I hope that if there is one, it has an unending supply of materials for this childhod hero.

:(

Even at my old-ish age, I never got bored watching his programs. Morph always made me laugh 'till tears.

It was very sad new to read. Once I saw the news on the BBC I called my sister back home to tell her :'(.

RIP Tony.

How very very sad :'(

Such a lovely, gentle and talented man.

RIP Tony, thanks for the memories.....

RIP Tony, didn't realise he'd served as an infantry officer in the Far East during WWII. A talented man indeed.

Heaven gains another Angel.

Tony lived in the same village as my father-in-law. I never met him, but up until his health started to fail, he was regularly helping the local community.

One we will miss

Such a sad sad loss:(

Another part of my childhood gone forever, although I struggle to draw a stick i loved his programs

A sad loss, I struggle to see why people that have never really achieved anything get knighthoods and OBE's yet Tony Hart who was probably one of the nicest men on TV and still making childrens programmes well into his 70s never got anything.

there was a small article in the paper today about his life,he was an officer in the Gurkhas during the WWII which i didn't know.

RIP Tony

Pity I didn't know about this until I read about it on the BBC. Would have loved to go :'(
