Just turned this on now... very interesting.

As a side note, one of my fav ever prog tracks is the awesome 'Waiter there's a yawn in my Ear' from the album 'The Roaring Silence' by Mannfred Manns Earth Band... wow... what a track. Anyone else like that one?

It would appear not :|

A great programme, I thought - I really liked the way in which it was put together.

I'll be raiding the bargain bin in HMV for some of the albums featured!

And I'd forgotten how much I like Yes!

Cheers,
James

I have met Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman a few times, they both have excellent rapport with fans. Jon Anderson is quite ill at the moment and has recently cancelled a tour I believe - he suffered with respiratory failure I believe some time earlier in 2008. On the recovery now, but might be out of action for a little while.

yes were great - till he sang..... sorry

I really like the music Yes did - just not jon

Dream theatre have the same problem (before you start i have all the albums)

Rush - great band - same problem - why do these great bands have singers with less then likeable voices - but they can all sing (but i have all the albums)

missed the program - gutted as i like this type of music

a modern take on prog rock

Porcupine Tree

youtube it ....

Yes, I have that album! and most of the Yes albums!

I've still got copies of The Yes Album and In a Word, don't forget older bands like King Crimson and ELP and there is a great new band called Heavy Water Experiments that is really worth having a listen to.

For those looking out for modern prog rock bands, there's one band who in my humble opinion, are awesome and have quite a following after only their second album. Their first album is a stunning collection of prog rock songs at its brilliant best, with long instrumental breaks in weird and wonderful time sigs, some super guitar riffs, and some finger busting meaty synth solos chucked in for good measure.

The group: Frost, their excellent album: Milliontown

... some of the best prog rock about. Check 'em out.

Never heard of frost but I will seek them out, also Pendragon,Pallas and porcupine Tree are well worth a listen to

Well I was GLUED to the TV for 2 1/2 hours.... Some fantastic stuff on there, wasn't there?

Anyone care to throw in their faves .... I'll vote for Caravan. "For Girls who..." is not their best album by a long way but that was a fantastic performance.

And was that THE Karl Jenkins huddled away behind a moustache, a peaked cap, sax and a keyboard during the Soft Machine's track?

Might I suggest that of those featured last night, it was the likes of Yes and ELP who brought about progrock's downfall by their sheer bombast? (Sorry to all Tales from Topographic Oceans owners ......;))

I'd love to have seen some stuff (or even a mention) of the Welsh band Man ("we might not be the best band in the world, but we sure smoke the most dope") whose album "Be good to yourself..." must be one of the top 5 Prog albums ever.

Why no Pink Floyd, I wonder? Perhaps it was thought they've had enough TV coverage recently but that was a huge gap.

A massive Thanks to the BBC, and I see there's more to come.

Possibly because they were Welsh.....

"Be good to yourself....." had to be the best all round package of music and album cover ever, what with the fold out "Man's map of Wales". What a work of art! I will never forget the first time I heard and saw that!

Yeah there's a version of "Keep on Crinting" (I think) on a 3CD sampler I've got. Absolutely brilliant. A friend of mine used to dose himself up on ether then go sit in the car and put that on the car stereo full blast.

Carries on reminiscing to himself ......

Wehey, Hyperventilate eh... cracking track and glad you liked it. Have a listen to the awesome Gem Godfrey on synths at around the 6:00 mark in that track. There's a fast 5/8 rhythm going on in the background guitar and base line, drums somewhere else but in time... and then the synth lead solo line... wow... some remarkable fingerwork on the huge 3 + octave arpegio's. I think the sound for that was made up with Korg Legacy collection added to one of the Motif lead sounds. Fab stuff...

I will check out Transatlantic... thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for posting that - nice!

I didn't realise anyone was making music like that these days, though I must admit for me it was a little bit guitar - heavy. :)

I don't know that one but their "Joybringer", released as a single, is wonderful. It does what it says on the tin.

I`ve always been one of those people that sniggered at my mates stepdad, he was into prog in a big way. Now I`ll confess that I`ve never bothered listening to it, it`s just one of those things when you`re a youngster, point and laugh at it.

However, it was obviously a quiet night on the tele last night so thought I`d sit through it. Quite surprised really, I liked the King Crimson stuff, they needed more on floyd though. More than the music, I liked the characters in the program.
