Yes
Is cricket photography operated under a licence system like football. The level I am talking about is the photos that will get published in the nationals during the cricket season. Do you get fed like footie?

Yes it requires accreditation, if that's what you are asking.

However, coverage of county cricket in the national titles is sparse to say the least.

Yes. Who authorises the accreditation? I have also been told a 600mm is really required and there are no team sheets so it's a pain working out who's who for captioning. I am tring to find out if it's worth doing. I would be at Headingley this summer, is that of national interest ?( I don't know about cricket).

The man has a point, if you know nothing about cricket then you may as well not bother, frankly. And an attitude like that will get you precisely nowhere, good luck.
Very helpful many thanks.

Shapeshifter - please don't edit out your posts just because you don't like the answer you got given. That's not how it's done on TP. Demilion gave you a helpful response about accreditation and coverage in his first post. To which then you decided to mention you don't know anything about cricket which is a bit of a poke in the eye for professional photographers who do know about their sports that they photograph.
