So basically you want someone to take portfolio photographs of you working so that you can sell yourself as a professional photographer, but you don't want to pay for it??

Nice way to start your business!

im not actually getting paid either - im not a tog, a videographer - tbf you have no idea on my bg. It does state 'UNPAID' so whats the problem?

It is the worlds most famous nightclub / brand ...

Chef wanted: must provide own ingredients. Date: Tomorrow. Location: My house.

Great opportunity to impress me with your culinary skills. This could lead to similar further work if I tell my friends how good it was.

Thanks.

nice one!

also

'itll look good on your cv"
"I havent got a budget"
"Im looking for a volunteer"

unfortuneatly, that dont pay the bills - yes thats fine, you want to use £2k worth of gear, no problem!

And in that respect considering the money they rake in should be coughing up and paying the production.

yup "we dont pay for external videographers"

its a pain, your essentially giving them free advertising, ive filmed at pacha london twice pretty much tight as for anyone with a camera - stills or video.

The problem is that you are trying to big yourself up and at the same time to gain by having photographs taken to make you look good, and as though you are working.

Unpaid work runs on a quid pro quo arrangement; you get my labour, I get to learn from your experience. In this case you have nothing to offer - running around in the MoS with a camera is no big deal.

hold on, your external but still working for them???

and you think its OK to give them "free advertising" :bang:

I would not even bother, no respect in the job and no prospects from it by the looks of it.

So what does the photographer get out of it? Just access to the venue? and what are your expecations?

Yes your right - im only using a £2k hd broadcast camera, with a tv presenter who has presented on ABC Australia, possible interviews with djs + most of the night they can take as many pics as they like of the clubbers etc..

It has nothing to offer, no experience for anyone.. i wont even turn the camera on as i wont be working, just posing.

Unfortunately not. I've checked out theirs (and a few other big name london clubs) galleries before, and well. I was a little shocked.

No its for my mate whos putting a night on in baby box - he runs a dj studio and ive just started doing the tv section on there.

So nobody we'd know then?

If you can afford the kit then why can't you afford to pay to have someone boost your business profile?

Most still photographers wont give a damn about broadcast equipment so you still aren't offering anything apart from free access to the club. You've even stated that the green room is probably off limits.

Just taken a look, how are any of them photos of any benefit to my portfolio?
It looks the same as the photos taken in a club in Leeds, or Manchester, Or Glasgow, or even a Discotek in German!

Right, when it comes to "working for free" there has to be some kind of benefit, as there would be in a TF~ arrangement between me, a model, an MUA and a stylist.
Collectively working together to each attain goals, the photographer photos for his portfolio that are of contrast to the rest, the model shots for her port, same with the MUA and the stylist gets some shots to promote their wears.

Every one is happy, and leaves with something to show for it.

That is a collective, beneficial free time agreement.

If I were to go take photos for the Yorkshire Express paper for an article for free its only of benefit to them, having my name as a professional under the photo does little to generate paid or other work, it certainly is not a viable free advertisement (considering I would charge upwards of £300 for the 2 hours).

Can you see why people are niggling away now?

Ive already had over 20 respond from a gumtree ad, not really any just a bog standard slr / in full auto will do.

I will take that as a no then?

Well of course a portfolio of those kind of images is only any good if that's the kind of work you are chasing. But the question is, if MOS, the 'biggest' club in the UK wont pay for a tog, just how much value does a portfolio of nightclub photos really have?

No resale value either looking at the number of copied images off club photography websites published on facebook.

I think this is one of those that falls under similar terms as girls who think NUTS magazine publishing their photo is actually a publication because they get a t'shirt and branded shorts (mind at least they get something!)

in the end they have made the magazine millions by providing ****** material for boys! and come away with something that probably cost a few quid at most to get printed in bulk.

In a way you're no better than the client you're working for.

Just because they don't want to pay you doesn't mean that you have to get a photographers services for free. If you want a photographer then you have to pay for it and not be selfish. If you get pictures of yourself filming then you are promoting your brand and so while you can get future work for the night club the photographer won't.

A bit hypocritical if you ask me.

Would I be able to go to the bar in there and get free drinks because I'd really like to experiance geting drunk in a London night club???

Nor me TBH. If anyone hasn't already done it yet I suggest you look at the OP's posting history - sets new standards for hypocrisy IMHO...

That's the first thing that I did- hence the initial reaction!

yes ive done club photography for tilllate and various promo videos - those posts are i think 2 years old.

have now got someone, i think it was a mistake posting on here as you all seem to be experienced pros, which im not really looking for.

It's not really for that reason I said that TBH, it's just that generally speaking

a) Nightclubs aren't raking it in any more, particularly the superclubs.
b) DJ's are 10 a penny, it's only really the really well established ones that make any money, and they are more likely to be playing in the main room than the Baby Box of MOS. I would assume they'll be lucky if they get their cab fare home, and more than a couple of free drinks.

Exact attitude clients use which proves my point I'm afraid. You are saying that because some of us are experienced pro's we have to be paid well unfortunately it's not down to experience it's down to the fact that anyone is using their time and creativity to help you out should be paid...experienced or not!

yes i agree, i should be paying, but its not top of my priority, if someone can take some pics, great, if not, I dont really mind. Certainly if nighclub / event stuff is what they want experience in, good for them!
