Hi All,

just read the post where CScottMcqeen got her C&G level 2 (congrats btw)

I am clueless in this area and something iwould like to do.

What qualifications help for you to be recognised as a capable tog ( not pro or anything like that) and by which awariding body.

The point is i dont want to waste time and money on a diploma that worth nothing more than the paper its written on. At the same time dont want something too basic as i feel i have most of the basics covered.
 
Depends on who you want to impress with it.
 
Back in the late seventies, I took a correspondence course with the 'New York institute of photography'. I passed with 'honours', but it didn't make the least bit of difference when I was trying to sell pics! Complete and utter waste of time.

Experienced gained over the years, leading to quality output is far more important than qualifications. In the final analysis, you skill will be judged by the quality of your portfolio, not by letters after your name.

My professional portfolio consisted mostly of black and white pictures of dead people, car crashes and crime scenes. Technically excellent I suppose, but not about to impress any photographic editor:lol:
 
i see your point and this has always been an argument of mine! For some reason i am on the thinking if i wanted to work for the local newspaper (an example). would they just be okay with a portfolio or would most places like that require some qualifications.
 
freelance = portfolio. staff maybe qualifications will look good on CV and get you an interview but it will boil down to portfolio... Its what you can do, Not what you know how to do.

I know how to play snooker. I know the rules inside out. I still cant win a game :)
 
a good portfolio and word of mouth qualifications work wonders.

institute of street and hard work.

these are qualifications that some of the top togs have.

No Scott is my name, the C stands for Christopher which I have never been called so it got put down to an initial.
