As I was checking my Facebook amount today I noticed that it had updated and I now have a nice new sparkly interface......but that is not the weird s***..... in the friend suggestion section it suggested a guy (eastern European) who drove head on into me 7 years ago writing off my car....WTF.. big brother is watching:eek:

I think it's update gets access to your emails

I too found its suggestions of people in my phones contacts strange

Do you have their number in your contacts? I suspect you've let the app find friends from your phonebook at some point.

As for them "accessing your email", highly unlikely.

Three only contact I had for him was an envelope with his details scribbled on the back.....which went straight to the insurance company

Facebook seems to change on an almost daily basis now, not had any suggestions like that,
just seems to be friends of friends, now that could be a tad worrying ;)

As long as you haven't got any 'digital' contact details for him and you haven't allowed fb or apps access to those contacts, then it really it is probably coincidence. Six degrees of separation and all that. Like Ingrid says, friends of friends and that, especially if you live in a similar area.

on my iPhone, i have a contact, saved under his forum name only, and only his email address in my contacts

but whilst browsing facebook, he was suggested as a contact, he is not a mutual friend or anything with anyone else on my friends list, but his details came up as a suggestion

If he lived locally to me, or was a mutual friend or if i had previously searched his details, then I could have thought thats how he came up, but i haven't, so in my opinion, somehow facebook have access to my contact lists on my phone

this also isn't a one off, as i have other companies been suggested also

The accident was in Northern Ireland, he did live in Poland and I live in Berkshire.......

I only give him my address and insurance details.....and I have moved 3 times since.....

It's Facebook. The second you join, they've got ya. Mwahahahaha. :cautious: :sneaky: (n)

Only if you give your real name etc and a non disposable e-mail addy!

Given that I use facebook to keep in touch with people that I know, many of whom live overseas, why would I use a false name?

*puzzled*

Fb did something similar to me so it will be pure coincidence as it isn't allowed anywhere near my contacts.

The facebook mobile app changed terms and conditions a while back as part of an update, and required access to all contact information. I no longer have FB on my phone.

Mine still works and I am pretty certain I didn't allow it permanent access to contacts.

Never suggested you do! I did because I have plenty of real friends who I keep in touch with via more traditional methods and only joined Farcebonk because an online acquaintance wouldn't show his snaps on any other medium.

Mine stopped working after a while of not allowing the update - maybe you'll get away with it. However IF the app was updated sometime in the last 4 months then it will have snuck those conditions past you.

Anyone ever noticed that facebook automatically scans your private messages for marketing data? The reason I mentioned it is because I've had chats with people regarding certain items that have not been looked for on the computer that I'm using, 5 minutes later and the facebook target ads have changed to that said item.....

Before we get surprised or outraged, we really need to know how many people, from all round the world, you've had head-on car crashes with!
LOL! No, really. I did :D

Don't forget that this may not be down to what you have given FB access to, but what the other party has given them. It is they who hold some info about you which FB has harvested and used.
