So today i went over to the Southampton LCE Show at a local hotel, an opportunity to handle some lenses and get some information straight from the dealers.
I’ve been looking for a Manfrotto 055XPROB Tripod for a while and they had them on special for £119... reduced from a RRP of £160 Well, that was the cheapest I had seen it, they had lots of stock so i went for lunch on the high street, to mull it over.

On the way back to buy it, i dropped in at the LCE shop, and found a second hand, mint condition 055XPROB for £85. I ummed and arghed, and asked if there was any room for negotiation.....

Straight away the guy in the shop suggested £65..... Well, as it was mint, and not a mark on it, it would have been rude to snap his hand off!

Very happy shopper here :) Now, to get a ball head :) Im really chuffed.

Anyone else get a bargain today?
 
Yep, went to have a look at a D700 in Jessops and didn't buy it - saved a lot of money :D
 
Are these shows typically good for deals? What else takes place there? I see ads for one in a Southampton hotel as well, but don't know if it's worthwhile going.

there were a few deals, mostly freebies... ended up with about 50 pens and an equal number of lowepro lens cloths!

Its just nice to get your hands on the lenses and try them out on your camera body for size and weight etc.

I buy most of my bits second hand, so its ideal to see if the next lens i want will fit in that bit of the bag, feel good and generally do what i want it too. Most of the traders there are not selling, they are their to advise and as such it means you can have honest discussions...

Ie: Sigma man told me not to buy a lens, as it wouldn't do what i want... i rarely get that from jessops or LCE instore.

Next southampton show is april.
 
Thanks for the info; seems like a worthwhile visit. Will keep an eye out for other local ones, and definitely the next Southampton one if I remember.
