To iphone or to Blackberry - that is the question!

 iPhone = style over substance. I know too many people (business and personal) who have either had to swap or fanny about with their iPhone. It's also getting a bit 'Ford-like' as in everyone has one now, even kids, so there is no real appeal to have one in my view. I don't think it has the 'ooohh' factor anymore if thats something you want to consider.

:nono: Blackberry = was good once but not now. I don't believe it would suit your needs at all. Most people I know that use a BB are either teenagers 'cos they think they look cool now you can get them on an affordable contract, or office workers that need to be tied by their IT dept to their system.

 HTC = get one - end of. I have the HTC Touch Pro 2 as I use a phone more for work stuff not just fun and playing (self employed etc..) and it is by far the best phone I have ever owned. I've had the Nokia Communicators (all versions) and they were good (just a bit big) but then Nokia took their eye off the ball and the N97 was just pants. Blackberry, just no good for me as I have 'mans hands'. All my teckie mates kept telling me about these HTC things - I'd never heard of this brand until I got one - and I've never looked back.

My lady got her HTC Desire last week - OMG - bloody fantastic. She's no tog or teckie either but it does everything she needs and loads more, awesome screen, and loadsa integration and connectivity options.

HTC.. you won't regret it.

it comes down to what you need it for really....work it out...

iphones are just a result of a marketing execs wet dream in terms of branding..but they serve a purpose...i guess...enough of them would prop the front of my car while i change a tyre....

i have a blackberry storm so i am biased but it does what i need..the iphone does seem to be smoother in its operations with regards to photos and the shutter lag on my storm is incredibly bad...but...i hear people when they call, i get emails, i can send emails and surf the web easily...job done.....its just another canon vs nikon irrelevant debate

i have both 1d's and d2x/3x's so i know both sides of the fence..

i am a bit of an apple fan, but i decided to get a bb curve 8900, i had a samsung tocco before, but you cant keep the screen clean, one thing i did notice about the bb is,
it is quite a bit lighter than the iphone, although it seems to be solidly built.
i like the qwerty keyboard and the screen resolution is excellent, although it is small.(er)
8900 has wifi too.
just my 2 bobs worth, its you who will be using it for the duration of your contract.
HTH.

so far this morning on my iphone i have:

Viewed a PDF
taken and emailed a photo
sent a text
made a couple of calls
set a calendar appointment
viewed the forums
posted on the forum
killed zombies

seems to do all that is required.

i can also use it to do some room calcs and RT tests, handy for work..

But you could only do those things one at a time eh Matty;)

I wouldn't have either, I've had two Blackberrys and if I get my way there won't be a third. I've watched people tapping away at their iphone screens like they're a bit mental. I don't need any more help in that department so I'll always have a phone with a proper keyboard.

Android all the way, my Motorolla Dext is brilliant and the Droid is meant to be even better.

You can come and see both in use here.

I sell Blackberries so I have to have one. But I prefer the iPhone.

Until last week that is. I now also sell the iPhone :D:D:D

HTC Desire, does everything the Iphone does and more. Screens also nicer and sharper which makes viewing websites/photos a bit better. Obviously lacks the games of the iphone (for now.. android will get them in the next few months). Oh and it's cheaper. Sadly it doesn't make my penis bigger.

For me, the iPhone fulfils all my needs. Email, web, music, pictures...everything!

i love it!

There is a new 4G coming out in june apparently, so it might be worth holding off till then and see if the new spec is of interest to you??

My friend has a Blackberry, and after playing with both, I would choose iPhone, but that's me!

I have a blackberry - well pleased, especially for emails and Gprs.
Very handy at business meetings for showing our videos and slideshows to clients.
Don't need a bigger p*nis though :)

Apparently you have to pay blackberry and extra £5 for push email...on top of your contract pm. I guess I'd go for the iPhone too....though my Xperia X10 kicks its ass. ;)

Yeah...and 3 sony ericssons later I'm sick of them. My xperia x1 was great for about 3 mths, then the slowness kicked in, a hard and soft reset would not speed it up. Plus the lag time whilst you are creating texts is very annoying. I don't trust sony ericssons anymore now, they develop problems.

thanks for the advice everyone. I'm still no closer. Although I am laughing at the choice from vodafone that you get as a gold customer. I get the choice of 21 new phones including iphone and blackberry 9700....yet as a new customer there are 37 phones to choose from, it's madness! Oh and I don'g get the option of some of the cheaper phones, yet I do get the option of some other similar cheaper phones. :cuckoo:

EDIT - Oh and can anyone clarify if the battery on the iphone goes then you have to get a new one? 2 of my ipods have shared that fate.

DOUBLE EDIT - Which one of you cyber bully's mentioned the HTC desire. There is another option now....! :bang:

HTC Desire is 100% the way forward.. doesn't cost as much as the iphone but has better hardware and works great just out the box just like the iphone.. but if you are the type to want freedom with your device and not be dominated by apple then the HTC becomes more powerful option imo.

Can easily do everything you want it to.

Im posting on the train now on my laptop using it in tethering mode for internet!

David who works here has the new HTC. I have to use, it is absolutely AWESOME. Bigger screen than the iphone, and a lovely windows OS. I am quite envious. He has a smaller penis though,

G.

It doesnt have windows at all otherwise the hd2 would be the better option.. it has google android operating system!

Now approaching 50k apps too so plenty of choice (:

David's is the HD2. I love it....

I have said it before, but now it's official. Iphones make you more attractive, FACT. I am 79% more attractive as a direct result of owning an iphone. My penis is also twice the size since purchase, now it stands at a whopping 22 inches..

I refuse to fold mine in half for anyone. :D

Oh and another vote for the Iphone.

I'm really really liking the look of the HTC Desire at the moment. Just spent an hour or so watching reviews on it.

Is there a drool similey in here???

I have a BB Bold 9000 - due for 'upgrade in 3 weeks - iphone? :thinking::thinking: I realy can't decide between them.

I discussed this a bit at work today and although most people were impressed by their i-Phones none really gave me any good reason to suggest it was a better than my Bold 9000 for work stuff. It has some nice touches (excuse the pun) and has a better screen for pics and browsing, but it my BB is perfectly functional and gets the job done. I-phone users seem to accept that it crashes quite frequently too as if it was something that was normal which I found a bit weird. My BB has only ever crashed due to a misconfigured 3G mast near me. Although I have the BB, I do think the iPhone is more of a gadget and more interesting and I am sure both do the same job so I'd also consider how much it was all going to cost.

You do have to pay for a bolt on but that will still cost you less than the over inflated iphone contract price.

iPhone gets my vote. The browser on my BB sucks, and it also sucks at being an mp3 player/photo viewer where as the iPhone nails all of these. The e-mail features have also been updated in the 4.0 release and if it doesn't have the email feature you want i'm sure there will be an app for that ;)

You could also look into the android phones like the HTC desire and Nexus One, both highly rated.

So, I have spent months saying I am going to get an iPhone, but the HTC phones are looking more and more desirable but can I synch with, for example, the calendar on my Mac or should i be looking at google calendar instead? Got a really lousy LG atm and a bit of a numpty at what the latest phones can do

I just upgraded from a Blackberry 8900 to an HTC HD2 as our work IT dept decided they no longer wanted to support Blackberries..

The HTC is simply stunning, especially the huge screen. They are definately chomping up some market share right now

Although, I like my Blackberry and the mobile internet sort of works, I just lothe the fact that the iPhone has all the cool apps.

Yep theres one or two for the Backberry, but no where near the number of the iPhone. The only thing tha puts me off is the monthly tariff's are high and give me more minutes than I would use.

That, said the new iPhone 4.0 looks so good, I might not beable to resist the draw of the iPhone when it comes out and my contract is up for renewal. :)

I have a Blackberry 8900. I really like it. I have it set up so all my emails and SMS go into main inbox (which is nice). The screen is big I use it for Orange Sat Nav which works a treat. It syncs nicely with outlook (if you have it) and the backup and restore function on its software is pretty good. It has a standard headphone jack to play your Mp3 and the sound is good and headphones comfortable (but you can of course use your own).

There is actually a Blackberry app store if you need it.

There are loads of clever shortcuts on the Blackberry once you get used to it it makes life nice and quick.

Calendar and contacts easily organised (and as said synced with outlook)

I currently pay £30pm 600mins, 500 texts unlimited email and internet and this includes the orange satnav too.

Blackberry is a business tool, if you dont have enough business to keep you busy you could always get an iphone...

Slightly off topic, but it is dead easy to sync the calendar on your Mac with Google Calendar, and from there to sync with an iPhone (I assume Android supports Google Calendars too).

Back on topic, I'm waiting for the new iPhone to come out, but keep thinking of going over to Blackberry as a lot of my friends have them, but there are little things stopping me like not being able to dock it into cars/stereo systems to listen to my music and wanting to keep my exchange email.
