Hi everyone,

It's upgrade time and I'm looking at a couple of brands of phone. On one hand it is the iphone and the other a Blackberry (no idea what model though).

As they seem like pretty standard brands I imagine a lot of photographers here would have used either, or even better, both. I will be wanting to use my phone as an extension to my pc so I can be organised and available on the go. Basically what is the key things for me are:

+ contacts! It is key for me to have a really user friendly and detailed way or organising my contacts and getting the most from my phone.
+ email - accessing and creating emails will be important
+ web browsing - wifi is a must
+ mp3 player (I imagine the iphone will win that hands down but my other phones have been decent as mp3 players)
+ something that lets me view my photo's easily

I'm not fussed about the camera capabilities on the phone either. As crazy as that sounds I just never take pics with my camera phone. :cuckoo:

So back to the question:

To iphone or to Blackberry? :help:

Another vote for Apple here, I love mine to peices and have never had a single problem with any of mine (2G, 3G, 3GS). Great to type on, emails, contacts are easy to get on with, as said mp3 capabilities go without saying and it's a superb way of displaying photo's as they have a lovely sharp screen :D

I have Blackberry Bold 9000 and I don't see any resemblance to anything out of a cracker. It's a brilliant business tool and does all it needs to perfectly. Email, web browsing, and it plays mp3's. It's smaller than an I-phone and i like the qwerty keyboard and the fact I don't have that predictive text (although it has it's own dictionary) so I can write the words i want to quickly.

It has one or two quirks, battery can run down a bit quick if it is struggling for a signal or a busy days with calls but generally it just does it's job. Of course you have to pay a little more for Blackberry internet services and maybe 3g mobile broadband. Blackberry is well established as a business tool.

the i phone is more gimmicky but it seems to keep people happy. if you like greasy touch screens and a larger device it's the way to go as it has a load of apps and is well supported. There is no doubt it is more versatile product and runs all sorts, most of them things you don't really need though. all the people i see with it seem to spend half their time distorting faces with a photo app and running you tube or something equally time wasting. however, there is no doubt there are some good tools too for all sorts of things should you need them.

And.....it makes your penis bigger.

Personally I use a BlackBerry for work, I hate it, my personal phone is an iPhone, it's features I belive are far superior to any model of BlackBerry and as Neil (I think) said seems like they've fallen out of a cracker, cheap looking and easy to break.

Just my 2p worth.

that's my concern with the iphone. I've had a play with the 3gs and whilst it was a brilliant device it did seem very gimmicky to me. Oh and I did draw a willy on the head of a pic I just shot of my brother in law! I did seem to spend more time messing about on it rather then using it as a tool. Having said that the mp3 player was superb and the gallery for photo's was spot on.

I just don't know!!! I've been on youtube just now and looked at more vids of the iphone and blackberry. Each iphone vid does seem to show different apps all the time and isn't very useful, instead it's like "look at me". Where as the reviews of the blackberrys are quite switched on and focused.

Oh and Gary - I doubt the wife would want me to be any more attractive to the masses!

And.....it makes your penis bigger.

:lol::lol::lol:

I guess the question is, what do you want from your chosen device? From what you've said you want WiFi?

Only then 9000 Bold, 8120 Pearl, 8230 Smartphone and 8820 Smartphone have that support from the BlackBerry side, but except the Pearl all of them are pretty big. Certainly no smaller than the iPhone.

I'm coming up to upgrade time too and I have a blackberry already and I love it. (I don't need anything to make my penis bigger since I don't own one ;))

It does everything I need it too and the email function is perfect for me.

I have all enquiries from my website routed to it so everyone gets an reply within minutes if I'm available to do it. For simple efficiency they are perfect.

For showing photos they are not as good as the iphone but I can live with that since iphone can't even open my website! lol

The Bold 9700 has wifi too. Size isn't much of an issue to be honest, the iphone is a brick and is a handy size because I would want it to be functional. If a phone is smaller than an iphone then it is a bonus in my eyes.

Martyn - I've listed what I am looking for above and wifi is not just one thing. My current phone is a sony ericsson xperia x1 and that went belly up after 12 months.

for an excellent phone and useful photography tool it has to be the iphone.

I had an iphone until about a month ago and I upgraded and got a blackberry 9700, having used both, and I was a big iphone fan, I do prefer the blackberry, it has a better battery life, and personally I prefer typing on the blackberry, blackberry certainly is not out of a cracker. My iphone case had split on the back and also a piece of the case had fallen off by the ringer silencing switch. I have also found I get better reception with my blackberry, places I had no signal with my iphone I have 2 bars on the blackberry.

Of course you own a penis. It's attached to your other half (I presume! :D )!!!

Now that is what I am looking for!!! Thanks for posting that.

Now that is interesting! How ever would I be able to get on your blog too? :D But it is also worrying...let me guess....flash?

And thanks for the comments from Dave - someone who is an apple fan and has had both

HTC desire looks like a very nice phone indeed :)

i use iphone, i manage 1 business and am a director of another, and can manage to do both with that phone without getting distracted by cool apps. I am already very attractive but the extra penis size is always welcome.

having had both I much prefer the 3gs, seems a much more "fun" phone where as the blackberry was a bit bland. however the blackberry had much better email than the iphone.

Yeah but at 6"3' I don't claim to own him, just feed him ;)

Actually I'm sure some of my friends think I keep him in the cellar and just throw the occasional lump of raw meat down there. Little do they know he can scrub up all right ;)

An important decider for me was the lack of exchange support for Blackberries.
If you or your work uses exchange then I would definitely say go for the iPhone or HTC.

Also - the new OS4 for the iphone enables you to multitask and have 2 exchange accounts running at the same time. It is very slick and adds a hell of a lot to an already great (IMO) device.

For a home user I don't think there is a great deal in it. Although I like my Blackberry and it works perfectly for me, and yes my Bold has wifi, the iphone is equally as good and is superior in capability. However if you just want to email and browse, play mp3's then both are capable of that. Blackberrys really are a business tool, mainly because of the support for the enterprise server that integrates works email and is supported by many big companies. Seems to me though, as hinted at here, iphones are a fashion icon and seem to spend there lives being shown to other people and carried in hand. My blackberry comes out when needed and just does what I need of it.

I may get an HTC (possibly Desire) this week, which supports flash I believe for web browsing if that is of use. It will be cheaper than a 3GS I think (but not a 3G). I believe the next gen Iphone may be out in the next couple of months so you may want to wait a while if you go for the iphone as the 3gs may then drop in price.

**edit too slow as usual**!

Ive owned a Blackberry Bold 9000 and was bored of it after a few weeks, the screen was useless as a web browser and the contacts were confusing (too business like). Emails were ok enough but the screen just wasnt good enough

Chopped it in for an Iphone.....a million times better

- Larger and better quality screen
- Web browsing is much much easier
- Email is a step up from the blackberry, its hard to explain this one, it just works better on the iphone.
- MP3 functions speak for themselves
- Apps speak for themselves also (compared to the blackberry)

The downside to the iphone is the battery life if you are using WiFi or 3G!!

would i be right in saying that only the blackberry has it's email set-up as pushed messages... i.e. they appear on the screen as they would on a pc. whereas the iphone email must be logged into before it checks for email?

blackberry = business
iphone = fun

Blackberry, I have the Bold 9700 and it is a great phone. Unless you wanna sit around playing 5 year olds games all day - then go for the Blackberry - a real phone ;)

iPhone supports exchange and is push tech.....I get emails on it before my Outlook Exchange Client....

Nope. The iPhone has full push email - exchange and me.com accounts work instantly.

If you want push on the blackberry usually people have to have a blackberry email address and forward all to that.

Yep, have had one since day one and love it.

My son is on about his 6th Iphone, been down to the Apple store more times than I care to remember.

He is going to get a Blackberry when he is due for upgrade and an Itouch for music and apps.

I got the HTC HD2 in Feb, but got the HTC Desire for the other half last week. I did think about swapping over. But decided the big screen was for keeps

I have said it before, but now it's official. Iphones make you more attractive, FACT. I am 79% more attractive as a direct result of owning an iphone. My penis is also twice the size since purchase, now it stands at a whopping 22 inches.

Gary.

And around 98% of that 54% I probably wouldn't want to date anyway so... :p:D

To the OP if it is just those two brands then I would go for an iPhone as the Blackberry is much more a mobile communication device (specifically emails), whereas the iPhone is more of an all rounder.

However why not an HTC Desire, Nexus 1 or HTC HD2?

All three would fit your bill entirely and be better at a lot of the things you want.

I'll second that! And I wouldnt swap a Blackberry keyboard for the Iphones touch screen.

Apparently you have to pay blackberry and extra £5 for push email...on top of your contract pm. I guess I'd go for the iPhone too....though my Xperia X10 kicks its ass. ;)
