Just seen this advertised: (i havent put the contact details so I can't be accused of advertising for someone.)

Nikon D3 body
Description: Boxed body (less than 1700 shutter actuations) for sale due to lack of use. Complete with battery, charger, LCD cover (cost over £20), strap (un-used) and manuals. Possible part exchange. £2300, includes fully insured shipping, UK only. Payment by cheque/bank transfer,

Seems a good price.
I mainly shoot with my 70-200mm and 200-400mm. I havent tried full frame before. What difference would I notice from using my D300? Is it only really beneficial on portraits/landscapes etc?...
I have this thought in my head that it wouldn't be much use for aircraft photography and wildlife with my lenses. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something?
Help me understand. :)

The image quality is exceptional with the D3, I use both those lenses and even now, seven months on, I still find myself amazed by how good images from this camera can be.

You might miss the extra reach of the DX sensor though so keep that in mind. Of course you can always improve your stalking techniques of buy a ghilli suit (thats a serious comment lol) to help you get in close to wildlife!

Also, on the D3 both those lenses suffer from some vignetting when wide open at the shortest end of the focul length.

Considering you can get a new one for anything between £2400 to £2700

It's not really a good price IMO, is it an ebay sale? if it is then tread carefully.

No its not ebay. Private sale on another forum. But I didn't realise that they had come down that much. Thanks.
I often feel that I need a second body so that I can leave both lenses on. I just thought that if I was to buy another body, would it be sensible to buy the d3/d700 or just get another d300.
I need to try a fullframe and see the difference I think.

Some thinking to do...

No worries mate.
It really depends on your requirements, think about what your needs are then make the decision, also have new glass in mind perhaps?

My next glass purchase will cost more than a d3 though...:lol::lol:

I didn't read any of this post, but I'm still just going to say "Do it!" :D

I read a bit. "Do it!"

But then my logical side comes in and says watch out.

I wonder if Nikon started prefixing their cameras with the letter "D" in order to hide it's true meaning of.....'D'ark side hehe

£2300 S/H isn't a good price, you've been able to get "refurbs" for that for several months (ie store returns, with 1 year warranty).

The D3 has dropped loads lately, so while 4 months ago it was a good price, its not a great deal. I'd shop around a bit thb.

or just get another d300.

I can help you there

As for the price, I don't think it's so bad, the purely gadgets offering is more than likely a grey import, so you'll not have any Nikon UK warranty at all. And aren't the refurbs that are available all through Harbor48 ( or whatever they call themselves this week ) and probably one of the worst places to buy from?

I'd say if you have the cash to splash, get it. Or buy another D300 and some more glass with the difference. Either way, you'll get great photos if you improve your own abilities the camera doesn't take the photos.

Pete

EDIT: Not to say there's anything wrong with your photos now as I've not seen them, but I'm sure you get the idea.

Jessops do refurbs, they kick out D300's for £750, and D3's for £2300.

Just need to keep an eye out. Local stores can get them them in. Often these are returns under the 30 day policy that go out to a cleaning house then are re-stocked.

Thats where Harbour 48 used to get most of their stock ;)

I'm actually the guy seliing the D3. I am a bit flexible on price (no rude replies please) which is why I said poss p/ex. I'm not too concerned whether I eventually sell it or not TBH but I'm not going to take a big hit on it. I just thought someone else would get more use out of it.
