...do you find that hot water aggravates it?

I broke my ankle 18 months ago, and to this day, having a hot bath makes it really painful. It goes very stiff, and I have a dull pain for about an hour afterwards.

I am not after medical advice here, I would like to know if this is the norm. If not, Ill get my arse to a doctor :D

don't forget to take your ankle as well as your arse to the docs if you do go ;)

(about as helpful as I can be, as I have never broken a bone)

Lived? Thats not living. Climbing stairs on your bum, sitting around the house all day eating crap and playing xBox and Wii games, sleeping in til 1pm...

Ok, ignore me :D

hmm, maybe I have broken something then! would explain a few things :p

No hot water does not affect mine, Other than seeing a bit of a dent I don't even think about it now.

Hmmm, maybe I better see a doc then. It doesnt stop me walking on it, but I cant bend it very far when I do, so I have to walk round with one foot on tiptoes for an hour

Did you have ligament damage as well? when I did mine it would not bend as much as the other one but I had a good physio who gave me some excercises and now its only fractionally worse than the 'good' one, it does sound as if yours needs investigating.

^^^ The docs never said I had, just that it was a hairline fracture and was left to heal in a cast for 6 weeks. During that time, it took a beating, guess that didnt help matters :(

Sounds to me like it may not have healed properly  I've got a weak wrist (shush now you lot with dirty minds!) and have broken it 3 times now. I don't get problems with hot water. But I think if your still sensitive after this long, the chances are it's healed wrong and you may have a bone fragment resting on a nerve or something  Just a guess. If I'm right though, you may get another chance at doing something more useful while in a cast ... (sorry! :( )

What do you mean it took a beating? were you not on crutches?

I had a hairline fracture, took 12 weeks to heal thou but i spent the first two months of that in bed.

Dont be sorry Jo, you could be right.

Mondo, I was on crutches, but it took a beating in other ways. I was encouraged to try walking on it, so I did... through Liverpool on a BD meet :D I would whack it against the sofa occasionally, Daz would trip over it... things like that

I broken my ankle 15 years ago. 5 weeks in plaster, it was stiff for a couple of weeks after that but from then to now, perfect: no problems at all.

I would hop down to the doctor asap...........

I got my heart broken once, so I slept with her best mate :naughty:

Chopped three finger ends off a while ago, when my hands get really cold they hurt like hell when warming up and I can`t stand very hot water on them.

Betty,

Sorry to hear you’re still suffering from this, but seeing you’ve said it was a hairline fracture then it should not hurt at all; especially after so long, and most certainly not from a warm shower.

What you may feel is the slight pain when it’s extremely cold, or overly humid; also, sorry to say but as you grow older you may start to feel more and more pain (some call this phantom pains)

Personally, I’ve broken (way beyond hairline fractures) too many bones in my body that I almost know this too well. Some parts of me have titanium plates to keep me from falling apart, and these do hurt a lot when I’m cold and the pain from these plates grow more intolerable as I grow older. However, none of the hairline fractures I have ever hurt, except in bitter winter (which is like December / January here in UK), or in heavy humidity (which is like May ~ October back home in Saudi).

At the end of this long reply, I’d say have this looked into and don’t just accept it as it is. You may say to yourself that you can put-up with the pains, but the pains and discomfort will only just grow with time. Better sort it out the sooner, and the younger you are so that your body can heal in good time.

Yup the body is a strange thing, a chap I know, I was first on the scene to a motorcycle accident he was in 2 years ago has just had it chopped off and says his foot is killing him - its not there !

Have fractured my ankle and disslocated my shoulder a few times. Not quite a break, but still. Extremes in temperature don't seem to affect either injury. sorry!
