I have been asked to photograph the game my son is playing in on Sunday. I have shot a few games before but they have been more like snapshots if you know what i mean!

Anyone any tips?

I've got a few lenses to choose from but was thinking of trying to shoot with 18-200 Nikon.

All advice greatly accepted.

:)

Hi neil, i have asked a similar question in the past. Now I am no expert far from it and there are professional 'sports togs' on here that no doubt have answered the same sort of question a thousand times! But let me try and help. Shoot from a low position (sit on a stool). Sit at the end of the pitch with your son playing towards you. Position yourself about half way between the side line and the goal post (?) Stay where you are and dont chase the game. Use a shutter speed of 1/640th if your camera/lens combo will allow it. I think that you should use the fastest, longest lens you own. If the 18-200 is the longest lens you have then you will have to wait for the game to come to you. Finally crop nice and tight. I really hope this advice helps you! Why dont you post some of your pictures when you've finished and ask for some critique? Good luck.

^^^^ pretty good assessment.

Don't try to capture everything, but try to frame peak action.
Fill the frame. Two players in a frame look more dramatic than ten.
