Why do people pay extra to have an item delivered before 9 am and then go out ?

This morning I had this happen, rushed around to save myself doing a 15 mile round trip, got there and 8.40
and ................................... no one home :banghead:
It was almost at the far end of the round, so I sorted it for delivery in reverse order, with just a few house after that one
then back down to do the rest.
Came back 15 mins later, just before 9am and there's a car in the drive.
Ok so I don't have to but 5 mins later I couldn't have but I stopped and this time managed to deliver it.
People are always moaning about things not getting there, so can someone explain why you pay for something
to arrive and then go out ?
Officially we can deliver any time after 7am but it does have to go back to the office before redelivery, if you aren't
going to make the time 2nd time out

I bet they thought that they'd get the school run in first, and if they "missed" you they'd complain anyway

As an online retailer we have this happen all the time. Drives me bloody insane.

Funny that when it happens, they were always sitting by the windows the entire day and no card is ever left.

If they're paying for it why worry about it?

Because when a delivery isn't delivered in time I have to deal with an irate customer who spears blind they were in and the driver never turned up, no card was left and demands a refund.

Whilst I know there are some questionable drivers out there working for some questionable delivery companies I sure it is in the best interest of the driver to make the delivery first time round.

isn't that down to the courier as much as the customer, sometimes anyway? I'm sure you can find many if not most people thats happened to, certainly a driver missing his time slot isn't unusual here and I'm not exact;y in the middle of nowhere

Life sometimes happens and is usually much more important than a parcel!

Well I can assure you that scanners are pretty accurate and show exactly where the item was scanned for delivery, so if they are sitting by the window they should
at least see the big red van pull up outside ;)
We now have to get a full name of the person signing for the item, whereas it use to be just a surname, because people are denying
it was delivered and unless it's known exactly who said they were signing for it the whole family can deny it.
Mind you we get accused of failures that aren't even sent via RM

Yep it was the school run, but although it annoyed me having to rush around, she is a lovely lady I doubt she would have complained, hence me stopping on the way back :D

Ingrid, I always wondered why the little machine doesn't have a camera fitted, so every signature would be accompanied by a mugshot?

We have new smaller apparently more efficient ones being issued soon, when the boss was asked why they don't have a camera, seems
we posties aren't to be trusted and I reckon they are right, loads of selfies, mucking about etc. although it would be useful at times
when you see a parcel delivered by someone else in view and wet, to prove it wasn't RM that delivered it as we always seem to get the blame.
Personally I preferred the god old days of pen and paper, at least it didn't keep going wrong or shutting down :banghead:

I have been a great fan of DPD for timed deliveries, zero failures and my local franchisee is very careful. So sending and receiving sensitive documents has been a dream.

Of late I have sent/received stuff via Parcelforce. Again they are proving to be excellent. I ordered a new small trolley suitcase from the Argos EBay site late Monday (£19.99 delivered - £60 elsewbere). It arrived at 2:30pm yesterday. Was so pleased with it I ordered another at 4pm yesterday. Parcelforce delvered it at 9.30am this morning). This is the 5th delivery ìn 2 weeks via PF for Argos EBay. I received 2 texts from them for each order. First was confirming delivery, second wa a 1 hour timeslot. All arrived in the time period.

RM are pretty good too.

All in all the timed slots and texts assist with planning and consequently the deliveries I get have been free of problems..... Citylink were always a failure though......

Now though Amazon Logistics have been getting bad reviews, my experience has been pretty good

All in all we, as recipients, need to do our best to make the effort to be in, arrange to get rescheduled or provide a 'lock box'. Easier said than done but, for me, I cannot be 'rrrrsed to go shopping in the high street, being ripped off for parking, hoping to find what I want actually in stock, etc etc. I am not influenced by price as most retailers are all in the same ballpark these days and tracking 'dealls' online rarely yields a bargain when I factor in my time. Home delivery is growing - even our local Argos does same day delivery for £3.95.....
