How long should you wait before you decide to sell gear? There are a few lenses and a speedlight that I haven't used for ages and ages. Should I sell them or hang on to them, just in case? Sold a Nikon 105mm macro a few years ago and have regretted it.

Thats a question only you can answer.

If you've not used it for a significant period and can't foresee a need to use it again, then sell it.
If you can foresee a need to use it, keep it - or sell it and re-buy/hire if you know you'll need it.

I have stuff I haven't used for ages but I don't need the money selling it would get me so I'd rather have the gear to play with if and when I want :D

I’d only sell if you can’t see any future use or need the cash. I sold quite a few things this year and now wish I’d kept a couple of the lenses.

Only you can decide... and, as with the rest of life, there's no guarantee that it will be the right decision!

I don't think Any gear is going up in value ,I sell to help pay for something Else .

The price of film cameras (not just the exotic and rare stuff) generally seems to be going up in value. A few years ago prosumer grade 35mm SLRs could be had for around the £100 mark from a dealership in excellent+ to mint condition, these days you're talking two to three times that price. I wonder if 'classic' DSLRs will go the same way in years to come, assuming they still work and memory cards are still available for them?

This said, even the most desirable prosumer 35mm SLRs from the latter days of the film camera era are not yet worth half their original price, and most people probably won't want to wait 20 or 30 years for a camera to regain some of its former value.

It's probably not the worst time to sell, unless obviously you want to think around effect of Brexit on prices over a few next months. If you have old format gear it will start losing value quite quickly in say 2-3 years time (could 4-6, I'm just guessing, but it will happen), so at least then you have the cash to buy latest and greatest.
It's not like you can't buy it back even tomorrow.
