I had a meeting at work today where the Internal Comms dept want me to photograph some of the staff for the website and also for a free magazine they produce.

The manager asked me if i could replicate another photographers work in that they have a white/grey background. I asked why greyish and i was told that the company they supply the images to add backgrounds to the image--similar to the green screen type of thing..Anyway this 3rd party company requested a grey background. So why would they request a grey background where in the dept we have a green screen, we have white backgrounds and lighting etc.

The pics i see already have an unlit white background which has gone an off white/light grey colour.. Any reason why this is preferred over a proper white background or a green screen when the model/employee will have a background added anyway?

^This.. plus green screen can add some nasty artefacts around fine detail like hair with certain hair colours. Green screen works great for video but sometimes with very high resolutions, grey is best.
