Hi to all i cant seem to find an answer to a question i have about backing up my computer, imac it currently runs 10.5.8
if i get a new computer with the latest version of apple os system will the hard drive with my old stuff work with the new computer
am i making any sense

You can migrate your data from the old Time Machine backup (with migration assistant) and when you connect the drive to setup Time Machine, it should give you the option to 'inherit' the backup

10.5.8 is from a long time ago.

You will almost certainly find that some applications won't work in the latest OSX version.

I think it still work, unless you do something stupid like have a slightly different main user account. In which case it breaks it.

Could you explain because I keep getting error code 10657

I used slight different usernames for my account, firstname vs first name surname and it couldn’t link them. I don’t seem to remember any specific error numbers.
