I have been trying to perfect panning time laps shots for a while now, I think I have now managed to sus all the variables. Here is a link to a test on my website you can change the quality by clicking on the Auto HD button in the bottom RH corner.

Let me know what you think.

Looks pretty cool. :) Perhaps just me, but don't you think it'd look better if it panned a bit faster?

You can pan faster, but the distance the camera travels between frames gets larger and so the effect is less smooth and doesn't look as effective.

I tend to agree with the panning faster bit. It is not actually making a huge difference to the shot. It's a balance between interval duration and pan speed.

What are you using to pan, is it automated?

You can also do panning with software e.g. LRtimelapse, which works well in some situations.

The pan is automated.

The pan rate on that clip is 0.02 degrees per frame. 0.04 degrees also looks OK and is effectively twice as fast. Once you get to 0.06 degrees per frame it starts to look a bit jumpy. I tend to go for the slower pan rate at the moment as its easy to make it go quicker in post if needed.
