Time for a New Car

Glad she didn't get one with a panoranic sunroof, my neighbour got one a couple of years ago and it leaked,
went back under warranty 3 times, stripped the whole thing down once, seems they are prone to it

Is that a dent on the leading edge of the front wheel arch where it meets the bumper? If so, because of where it is it could lead to rust developing there, so either get it done (repair price deducted off asking price as a haggling point) or find one that hasn't got one.

If haggling over price then don't forget to go completely silent on them if they've refused your offer... force them speak next to break the silence - it can be uncomfortable but often results it a "Tell you what we can do..." type counter offer from the salesman. Failing that, leave your telephone number so they can contact you if they change their mind... a long, slow walk back to your car is often interrupted by an "OK, we can do it"; or a phone call soon after you've got home. It's a buyer's market at the moment, so make the most of it. (y)

Also, do an internet 'feedback/review' check on the car dealer, I've no idea who they are but there are some real rogues out there, you only have to watch that Bailiffs are Coming programme to realise that. A good specialist report type check on the car to make sure it's not stolen recovered or crash damage repaired is advisable too. Best of luck and I hope it's a good one.

Yes, we'd noticed that but it may bev a case of quid pro quo as she has a similar one on her CRV.

Since lockdown in March, 2and hand car values have gone up. If anything I would say it's s sellers market right now. It's only new car sales that are down since March.

I'm still seeing plenty of cars sitting on forecourts when I drive past them, so it doesn't look like they're running out of stock just yet round here.

Reminds me of the last car I bought - I was told they couldn't possibly knock anything off the price as it was already very competitive. I politely explained to the salesman that I'd never yet paid full asking price for any car I'd bought and, as much as I liked him, I really couldn't bring myself to start now. He did the 'I'll go and ask the sales manager' routine. The result, I got £400 off the asking price (which in fairness, was already competitive!). So always haggle, if you don't you're giving your money away.

The worst mpg we had from our 2005 1.9 tdi was 48mpg and the best on a long European trip was 55mpg, so I think the Yeti should better that with a newer engine and better technology.

After market headunit with a good satnav built in is worth looking at. Some of the modern ones come with wireless android/apple car play so they're a step on from bluetooth.

Suzuki Vitara 1.4 Allgrip Boosterjet Auto. That has a good level of refinement - cruise control, sat nav, apple car play, radar braking, stop/start engine, half leather seats, sports trim, a bit of ground clearance, Japanese reliability, looks nice, reasonable mpg, decent space in the back, my dad got an ex-demo one in 2017 (2016 model) and the only thing it's had so far is a pair of tyres and it's usual regular servicing. The 1.4 is the sought after engine, and the 1.6 is less desirable. (Reflected in used prices).

When he was originally looking, he looked at 4x4 offerings from Mitsubishi, Honda and Toyota and settled on this for the value, spec and build quality. His is white with little subtle red bits of trim around the clocks and the internal parts of the front lights.

More '90s.

For the missus, not me.

She has a 13 year old Honda CRV and took it in to get an oil leak looked at. Turns out the the root of the problem is the it needs a gearbox rebuild. The place she took it to don't do it, they told her she needs a specialist and that's going to cost a fair bit. Not really worth it given the age but it's a little annoying as there are 8 monthly payments left on it.

So she's in the market for a new (used) car. She's not too bothered about getting another CRV but she does need something with a decent sized boot and have enough to get down some bumpy tracks as she visits Equine clients. It also has to be an automatic as she doesn't want to go back to a manual.

Any recommendations? The budget is £10k plus trade-in if she can get anything for it given the gearbox issue.

I doubt very much IF the only complaint is an oil leak you need a gearbox rebuilt...
Honda CRV is likely the best option, I mean yours is 13 years old and still only has an oil leak couple of nice Honda Garages are doing click and buy and appraise your trade in off photographs so give the 13 year old CRV a good clean and take lots of good photos and get in touch with Southport Honda do a deal on the best you can get for the money plus trade and get your new car delivered..Job done!

You're a bit late, the CRV is gone and has been replaced by a Skoda Yeti. ;)
